Visit to the ER yesterday
We went back to work on Tuesday (dh & I are teachers). I was in severe pain all day. Tried not to lift anything too heavy, but had to get my room put together. Same old bullshit, same incompetency w/ the administration, no paper for the copy machine, and so on. Wonder if Microsoft requires it's employees to buy their own copy paper, staples, and paper clips.;(

So Wed. AM, I woke at 3 AM screaming in pain. I had tried to roll over in my sleep and the pain woke me up. I limped to the bathroom, then laid in bed crying for an hour waiting for the vicodin to kick in. It finally did, but I had to get up at 5:30 to get ready for work. When dh got up, I said to him "how would you like to take me to the hospital instead of work today?" So in we went. Just at the right time, there was hardly anyone there and we were seen w/in minutes.

They hooked me up to intravenous dilaudid (woohoo!), toradol, and some steroid. While the dilaudid was active, I didn't feel a thing! I think I floated in the clouds, but it had no long-term pain relief. Nor did the other drugs.

So all they ended up doing was give me a note to stay off work for 2 days. I'm only using one, because I HAVE to get my room ready for the kids on Tuesday. I've got shit laying all over the place. They also told me to try to get in to see the neurosurgeon sooner than Sept. 12, which was when I had the appointment. When I got home, I was able to change it to next Wed., but at the office about an hour away. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

So I'm living on drugs. Don't know how well I'll do tomorrow at work, or next week when the kids start, but I'll just have to suck it up and do what I can.

1. You are going through so much
yasmina27. I hope you get some thing or some one to help you soon. I used to teach and going in with all that pain and lack of sleep has got to be miserable. At least the doctors seem to be listening to you, sometimes they ignor something like pain. Wish I could offer some help, just good thoughts for you to feel better.

2. Thank you Nite Owl
It is nice to finally have someone at least acknowledge that I am in pain. I just pray that this surgeon that I see on Wed. is better than the one I saw last spring. HE told me there was nothing wrong with me, and that sometimes pain just happens for no reason!.

I'm really not crazy about having surgery, but if it will relieve my unrelenting pain, I will do it. I definitely see a difference in my personality - I have the patience of a 3 yo., cry alot, snap at innocent comments, and in general act like a bitch, all of which I immediately regret.

I hate having to teach while sitting at my desk. When I was a student, I thought teachers who did that were just lazy. Huh - the innocence of youth. It's also very hard to teach while sitting, especially middle school students. You have to basically act like and idiot to keep their attention, and you also have to watch them like a hawk.

3. Ugh middle school
sitting down, that's a feat. I taught middle school for a couple of years, mostly elementary but got shifted around with cutbacks. I was young and just glad to have a job.

Good luck Wednesday, let us know how you do.

5. Thank you everyone
I've been snipping and snapping at my dh and kids tonight, & finally realized that I'm nervous as shit about my appt. tomorrow. What if he acts just like te neuro. I saw last april? The pain is at least twice as bad, but I've got the same MRI pics. What if HE says there's nothing wrong??

Oh, well, just need to wait and see. As much as I would like to, I can't see into the future. Thanks to all for your support. Please send me lots of DU love about 9:15 AM EDT!
