Amgen Tour of California

Saw two stages of the TOC last weekend--my club rode from our starting place in Northridge to see the pros climb Balcom Canyon in Stage 6 on Saturday. Balcom is about a mile long and 20-22% grade -- I found out what that means by attempting to climb it myself (I thought I was in pretty good shape anyway)

On Sunday I watched George Hincapie win the stage, crossing the finish line at about 40mph in the pouring rain. It was pretty damn exciting. Levi Leipheimer won the overall.



This is the third year of the TOC and each year attendance has improved dramatically. Things are looking up for pro cycling in the US, despite persistent doping scandals.
