I am worried about this winter.
We may have a bad one.

This morning when I was getting out of the car a flock of Canadian Geese flew overhead. This way early for them to be migrating in.

1. Huh, that is early.
I will watch for that up here in Kansas and report if I see any. I have not yet but then I have not been looking for that.

2. Well also we do not normally get cold fronts out of Canada
in July. It is way to early for that too.

3. True.
It is a balmy 78 in Kansas right now. Very cool for this time of the year although it is expected to heat back up soon.

4. I hope we get dumped on.

I mean really buried by snow. I'm not being sarcastic either. I love snow; I hate heat like this where your skin feels all sticky five minutes after you've had a shower.

5. Well I love snow, but...
I don't want to be dumped on. Just give us 8 to 10 inches once every two weeks.

6. That would work for me.
I like to get one really big storm every year, though.

8. Hope so, we need the water.
I'll take a bad winter. We could use 10 inches a week that doesn't melt off in 48 hours.

Geese are a bad indicator around here, though.... the beggars have figured out that this is the Promised Land and they never leave.

Some migrating birds are too smart for their own good.

9. mixed indications right now

that would tend to indicate a fairly mild winter...
It appears, however, that there will be NO el nino/la nina... and the NAO may be indicating a prolonged period of negative values...
I would guess that it will be a fairly average winter.

10. Yeah the maps don't show it.
But I look at mother nature too. Geese do not come in this early unless there is a reason. And the crickets are starting to get bad. And it is early for them.
