Record one day snowfall in NE Kansas today

I-70 closed between Topeka and Manhattan

9 inches fell in one day here near Topeka beating a record, some areas have 10-12 inches. Winds blowing near blizzard conditions (winds not sustained for >3 hours at 35 mph to officially call it a blizzard). 3 foot drifts widespread. 32 car pileup on I-70 eastbound west of Topeka. We had thundersnow when this all started this morning.

2. It isn't that rare actually, It just can only form in the heaviest of snow bands
