I had something happen to me but before I write about it, I want to see if anyone even bothers coming in here. I really think this could be a fantastic forum, but there doesn't seem to be much action here.

Anyway, my question is, "while searching for your ancestors, have you ever had a paranormal experience that you felt had to do with them?"

I did a few weeks ago. But I won't write about it until I see if anyone else comes in here to participate. I hope so! :) :) :)

1. I'm here
Though admittedly, it seems I just check in about once a week. I was busy last year working on a campaign and had to put my genealogy aside. Since the first of the year I've been focusing on a job search.

From what I can tell, some regulars check in a couple of times a week. Others, like me, maybe once a week and a few more like once a month or two.

Post away. We'll all get back to you sooner or later.

And, no, I've never had a paranormal experience with an ancestor. However, I have had huge, spur-of-the-moment hunches that paid off big. Some like to paint those as paranormal or bordering on it.

2. Ahem...
I posted almost this same thread a week or so ago! :P

Come on, cough up the goods. I love these stories. I am probably one of those people who sound flaky because I'm convinced the ancestors are clustered around in the great beyond trying to figure out what types of clues to throw me next that they think I'll catch. I've done pretty good so far!

:D

PS- About the lull-- we have been renovating our master bathroom AND painting our master bedroom at the same time. My weekends have been FULL. I hate it when real life gets in the way!

3. I lurk..
I am currently on a break from geneaology, but still check in every now and then hoping some inspiration will get me going again.

I have a baby on the way, my dad isn't doing so well, and I just moved...so I've been pretty pre-occupied!

We all have real lives. No apologies for lurking necessary.

5. Come on, tell!
I am eager to hear stories like that.

My supervisor at work is into genealogy and says she sometimes feels the presence of deceased relatives when working on a genealogical problem.

So far the silence from my relatives is deafening, but I'm open to incoming calls! Hint, hint, Aunt Julie and Great-Great-Grandpa Henry.

I did have a meaningful coincidence once. I went to the church where my grandmother was baptized and my great-grandparents were married. I looked up at the images of saints on the wall and noticed St. Bridget and St. Agnes were side by side. My great-grandmother was Bridget Agnes, and the paintings were added years after she attended that church. The devotion to those saints was likely common enough in that community, but still it was a nice moment for me.

6. OK, I got sidetracked and it took me a bit to get back in here.
And here I am, getting after everyone else for not being here. LOL?

Alright, story time. After a LOT of digging, I finally figured out a big family mystery on my Dad's side of the family. It was one of those things that NO ONE would talk about. Dad didn't even know what it was. Whenever he would go to his hometown and try to get people to talk about one side of his family, they would literally shut up and walk away. For years we've been scratching our heads over this.

The secret was actually staring us right in the face. But it took us a while to realize it. It turns out that this secret affected quite a few ancestors in some very sad and heartbreaking ways.

I tracked down some living relatives that my Dad didn't even know he had. THEY knew about the 'secret.' And they were able to fill in a lot of blanks for us.

I know I'm being vague, but it's for a reason. "THEY" don't like me talking about this!

I went to a friend's house one day a few weeks ago. While there, I told her every single detail of "the family secret."
I didn't leave out a thing. And then I came home.

When I got here, I went straight to the bathroom, as I HAD to - and, ummmm, how shall I put this...when I went to sit down, I looked at the floor -- it was covered in DIRT. The dirt was everywhere but behind the toilet. It was even behind the door. It was nicely scattered all over the floor, from one side of the bathroom to the other. It was actually a very neat job. There was NO physical explanation for how it got there -- other than "THEM" telling me to stop tossing around the 'family dirt.'
I'm not kidding. My family and I questioned ourselves for days as to how that dirt could have ended up in the bathroom.
No one in my family put it there.
At least not the living family members.

I have felt the presence of my ancestors as I've been searching for them. I've 'talked' to them, asking for help in finding out what happened to them. (I'm not crazy. I just figure it can't hurt!)

One night I was in the bathroom, brushing my teeth. EVERYONE else was sound asleep in bed. And there was a knock on my bathroom door. When I opened the door, no one was there. I searched the house. Nothing. So I decided to watch some TV. While doing so, every once in a while, a bright, white light would flash through a vase that was standing on top of the TV. There is no physical explanation as to where the light came from.

I should mention that I talk about our ancestors non-stop around the house. So if 'anyone' is listening, they know they are the main topic of conversation around here.

There have been a few other things that have happened, but the dirt - WOW. There literally is NO explanation (human-wise) for how it got into the bathroom. So I have to believe it was 'THEIR' way of telling me to stop telling the family secret. They kept it a secret for almost 100 years. I guess they want to keep it that way.

The 'night of the dirt,' I had a 'talk' with them and apologized. Can't hurt. LOL? Promised to never again tell anyone outside the family and would only tell people IN the family on a 'need to know' basis.

I actually wrote out the secret in this post. But I had to get up and go do something in the other room. While there, I felt the hairs stand up on my neck and arms. Needless to say, I came back in here and deleted the secret. I'm not tossing around any more dirt!

7. Ancestors and dirt and light, oh, my!
:scared:

I collect stories from acquaintances who have dealt with the inexplicable. Yours is right up there with the most dramatic.

9. I'd say you did the right thing
I've a photo ca 1852 of my great great grandparents, and I've "seen" Grandma Martha--and realized I was her, or she was me--if you get my meaning.

8. Do you mean with the ancestors who were mediums
or the ones not dealing with spirituality?

I've had many mystical experiences in my time, and some have, indeed, dealt with ancestors. I was visiting western CT and into southwestern MA in 2005, and felt I was "home". A recently discovered cousin and I soon after finally uncovered the facts about a whole branch of our family where I had been stuck for only a little over 25 years--and you guessed it, they were from this part of the country.

So what was your experience?

I didn't really realize this forum was here before, so just checking in.

10. I mean ancestors, period. LOL.
The dead kind who seem to be haunting me because they don't like it when I tell the family secrets I've recently discovered. See post # 6 for what happened. :) And welcome to the forum! The more, the better! :)
