Gov. Ted Strickland (Ohio) and his support for Hillary Clinton
Very nice article in The Portsmouth Times (my old hometown newspaper) regarding Ted Strickland's support for Hillary Clinton. He was really getting trashed on GD: P yesterday for standing with HRC, which is a damned shame and grossly unfair. Strickland's a good and decent man who really HAS addressed the issues of poverty and unemployment and his administration had been working hard to clean up the mess Ken Blackwell made of the election process in Ohio. To see him trashed for supporting Hillary was very depressing. Those folks could learn a thing or two from Ted when it comes to loyalty.

Anyway, here's just a small sampling of the article. Also, Bill Clinton will be in Portsmouth on Monday.

Governor shows campaign support
By FRANK LEWIS
PDT Staff Writer

Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland said he has two reasons for supporting U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) for the Democratic nomination for president.

"The first reason is personal," he said. "Across the years that I've been in office, no one has been more faithful to me than she (Hillary Clinton) has."

<snipping>

"When I was a candidate, she would send me a contribution even when I didn't ask for it. She has always been faithful to me, but that's the personal reason," he said. "That's not the really important reason."

Strickland said there is no comparison as to the experience of the two Democratic candidates, Clinton and U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

"If you look at Sen. Clinton's background and experience - and what she has accomplished in her life - if you compare that with Sen. Obama, there is really not much comparison," he said....

1. Yesterday, in Cincy, Gov. Strickland...
was eloquent and rational. He introduced Ms. Clinton and received cheers from the standing room only audience.

Ted Strickland will be THANKED forever by higher educators (like my DH)for what he is doing to transform higher education in Ohio. He and Hillary are both very pro-education.

I will be in Portsmouth tomorrow, to see Bill Clinton speak! That is really Clinton country out there!

2. I'd love to hear a firsthand report
Yep, Strickland is one of the good ones and Ohio was soooooo fortunate to get him after years of Taft, that incompetent nincompoop. But now he's being attacked by Dems for supporting HRC?? Hell, I think Strickland's done more to address the issues of poverty, employment and education during his short two years a Governor than Obama has done in YEARS of elected office. And Ted was willing to stand up for Hillary when others canned their loyalty just to be seen with the popular kid at school. At least the governor knows what loyalty is about. I would love to see him as a VP candidate on an HRC ticket.

I think there's a very good chance that Hillary will carry most of SE Ohio with the exception of Athens County (Ohio University). Of course, those folks from Applachian Ohio will most probably then be dismissed as the "trailer park vote" (as one Obama supporter so put it) without folks having the slightest inkling why these folks vote the way they do -- not to mention that Strickland is from Scioto County. It was the four Appalchian Counties of District 2 who voted strongly AGAINST Jean Schmidt in these last two Congressional elections. Hell, Scioto County voted against her by a 2-1 margin! But their wishes are always outnumbered by the more populated and more prosperous satellite counties around Cincinnati to the west.
