1. Good....
what she said was incredibly ill-advised.

4. Impolitic, but a truth no one dares say for fear of the racist charge. Things are playing out
...exactly as the other side(s?) like 'em. Someone had to say it, but unfortunately, it's a dangerous atmosphere right now. I still applaud GF's statements for their honesty. A price may be paid for it, but for reasons Two Americas has explained in this twisted, twisted 'discussion' about race today.

13. But she's right
And I admire the shit out of her for having the cajones for saying something that is true when everyone else cowers in a corner and kisses their ass.

17. As citizen_jane mentioned in a difft post, that's the prob. with PC-muzzles any talk about...
...sensitive issues like this. It will backfire in the GE, for sure, if BO is the nom. The GOP are salivating over these things right now.

18. If he's the nominee
I'm not voting. I know that will be looked upon badly and I'm a bad, baaaaaaad Democrat. But if he's the nominee, I have to re think a whole lot of things about the Democratic party. But one thing is for absolute sure. I would never vote for him. Not after all this madness, insanity and torture he and his insane flock hae put people through.

19. I am with you there. The destruction on the Dems that his campaign has wrought is unforgivable.
But then they'll say it was all Hillary and Bill's doing. Of course, that's been their mantra, their strategy all along, to falsely paint them as the bad guys, especially to blacks, because the Clintons are not racists at all. And so you have that Jeremiah Wright calling Hillary 'the enemy' - just because she isn't black.

And sadly, that strategy has been working like a charm.

3. Maybe I missed something. I didn't see her say anything out of line
However, I do think it is an obamanation with the threats and filth she has received from

the BO cult

7. Indeed. Two Americas discussion/posts on the issue are very enlightening...
...and reflect a lot of my own thoughts about it at this time. Check out his 'crickets' posting, if you haven't yet. Not one of those posts have garnered a response from the BO peeps.

9. Ferraro said the same thing in 88'.
It is deceitful for the Obama machine to claim that Hillary somehow connived to get her to say this in a strategy to play the race card--before a primary in the state with the highest black population in the country. Of course we know deceit is a big part of Obama's "new" brand of politics...

11. Ferraro was right
Other than some inspirational speech, who is Obama? Who even knew about him before this presidential race? What did he ever do to deserve the nomination for president?
I have had a problem with his lack of experience and results from the very beginning. So how did he ever get to be a contender?
As she implied- he is where he is because he is black......and while that may be non-PC to point that out, an inconvenient truth that is poorly timed for delivery- it is still an overriding truth. This contest has devolved to a race-vs-gender argument and on the basis of that I'm voting for the woman.
Charges of racism these days overcome any charges of sexism- it seems OK on DU to smear Clinton with sexist comments and the outrage is small. Even hint at something about race and immediately it''s a huge issue. How well the Obama campaign has played this- you're damned no matter which way you turn- such devious political strategy.
I have respect for the strategy- it plays well in the Democratic Party. But you can be sure the Republicans don't care about racism unless they can twist it to suit their own goals.
I second your opinion that another good woman has been marginalized. If anyone knows about prejudice in our political system- Ferraro does. Been there- done that.

12. Welcome, bluemom!.
Unfortunately, you're seeing DU at its worst right now.

I agree, the Obama camp's strategy of yelling "racism" at any recognition of its existence is going to backfire if he's the nominee. The Republicans aren't going to give a *&$#@ about being called racists; it'll just give the nasty subterranean rumors another boost.

The response Obama himself gave was both true and clever. Strangely, both what he said and Ferraro's remarks are true, although expecting people to deal with paradox amidst the heat of a campaign may be too hard for some! But forcing Ferraro out and Hillary to apologize smacks of attempted thought control. It's reminiscent of the Bushies', IMO, putting ideology above all.

21. You hit it on the nail---very sensitive enviroment during the primaries--and
any comment about blackness with bring about charges of racism. whether true or not is not the issue.

I initially stood by GF--still do--but....we can not change the political eviroment in the middle of a campaign--.
