Wow. You gotta love this program
Or at least the people in it. I took a notion this morning to go to the early morning meeting at the local club (nicknamed "Church for Drunks"). As I got closer, my car began acting erratically - losing power, overheating. I barely made it into the parking lot as it started boiling over. I figured it just needed radiator fluid, so I let it cool down while I went to the meeting. Of course, the other members spotted me trying to pour water in the radiator - something like five guys offered to check it out.

Unfortunately, it was a little more serious: the water pump was dying. Three people followed me to make sure I didn't break down as I limped my wounded beast to the mechanic's (not open today, but I left it in the lot for him to work on tomorrow). And a couple gave me a ride home. We're talking going ten miles out of their way to deliver me to my front door, and offering to pick me up later if I needed another meeting.

Wow. Just wow. How many people do that for a relative stranger? I know the woman who drove me was planning on going out for breakfast with friends, but she put it on hold.

She gets a prominent place on my gratitude list.

2. We family of strangers.
When I got a meeting and look around, I am always struck by two seemingly paradoxical truths - that we're all strangers and yet we all know one another better than anyone else ever could.

I consider my fellow addict to be my blood. A brother (or sister) from another mother, as one might say :D

3. AA people walk the walk.
Practicing the principles in all our affairs means we become different people.
We lend a hand, an ear or a ride to anyone needing it.

When I first came to the meetings as a complete societal outcast I remember
thinking: This is my place and these are my people. I've been coming back
ever since.

5. We reach out and help each other
when someone is in need.

This sure includes car problems as we realize our cars
get us to meetings ( and work, appointments, grocery stores, etc.)

I once drove a lady home from a meeting in her car.
She was coming off a bender and was too out of it to drive home.
My SO followed in our car.

Not use to her car, I drove it " wrong" according to her.
She lamented, " I drive it better drunk than you do sober!"
LOL- gotta love my fellow alkies/addicts.
;-)

I'm sorry you're having car trouble.
I hope it gets fixed soon.
