Are there natural ways or substances to kill the appetite?
I've gotta admit the only thing that really did that was the old Dexatrim with ephedrine. That killed my desire for food in nothing flat. That and smelling hot grease all day when I worked fast food. Totally removed all desire for food.
Is there anything out there now that will do the same thing?

1. I've tried Xenedrine (w/o ephedrine of course) with some success.
I actually just bought a bottle the other day and was going to start back on it again. I start off with one pill a day and work my way up (can take up to 2 pills, 2 times a day). If you do try it, just don't take any after about 2 in the afternoon - otherwise you'll never go to sleep! It doesn't make me jittery, but it does keep me up a little.

2. Yeah, I do not want anything that will keep me up.
I can't take much of the ginseng out there and expect to get a good night's sleep. And good sleep is as important to weight loss as many other things.

3. I have had some luck with psyllium fiber
It is the major ingredient in Metamucil and other like products. I take the sugar-free variety by dissolving two teaspoons in a glass of water and drinking it twice a day, once at 9:30 am and again at 3 pm. It makes my stomach fill full, like I've just eaten a big meal. That makes me satisfied with a salad at lunch and a reasonable dinner portion of protein and veggies. It does not work like chemical laxatives, and there's no worry of an "accident", LOL. Each teaspoon contains about 20 calories. I buy the generic brand in the large container at my local big box store at about $6.50 per container, and it lasts almost a month or more. Hope this helps!

4. I use tea and fibre supplements
Tea seems satsifying to me.

I also bulk up on fibre. I use fibre supplements since I can't eat that much. I use one from the Fibre35 diet. It's just veggie and fruit fibre that you can add to your food or drinks at almost 6 grams a Tablespoonful.

6. Protein works for me
I find that if I eat protein: meat or cheese or some such and probably some fat too ... nuts are good, I'm satisified.

But if I try to eat veggies or fruit or anything else, I feel the urge to eat again an hour later.

8. That's what works for me too, supernova.
As long as I'm eating fat and protein in adequate amounts, I'm never hungry and my cravings go away. I ate a sausage and cheese omelette at 7 AM today, and I'm just getting hungry now!

7. Hmmm. Maybe the mental tricks are the best...
I've found that, bar none, the best way to kill my excessive appetite is to become so engrossed in something else that I don't think about food. I guess my theory is, replace a food addiction with an exercise addiction (and/or writing addiction, political action addiction, etc.)

9. I heard that St John's Wort is an
herbal appetite suppressant.

I've found that cutting carbs as much as possible keeps me from getting hungry. When I eat meat and dairy products with a few green veggies I never get hungry and lose weight on a regular basis. I feel better too. I have more energy and feel stronger.
