Droopy's weekly weigh-in thread
I started a thread like this on another site some time ago. I weigh myself every week and then check in. It has proved to be a valuable tool for achieving my weight loss goal. I still have a long way to go, but I have made great progress. I will reproduce here the results of my weekly weigh-ins from the other board and then I will continue to check in here every Friday morning.

I started out at 287.4 pounds- the heaviest I've ever been. I looked up how many calories it would take for a moderately active, 5'10", 35 year old man of that size to maintain his weight and it turned out to be about 3500 calories a day. So my plan was very simple and has proven to be very effective. I drink nothing but water, consume very little sugar, and I eat no more than 2000 calories a day. I get a lot of exercise at work. I'm a trucker and I have to hand unload a 28' semi trailer every night. I figured that was enough exercise to start with. So I embarked on my journey to get down to 200 pounds.

I hope that you all will give me your input because that is what makes a thread like this work, for me anyway. I don't want to let anyone down and I really look forward to my weekly weigh-ins to see how good I've done and report back to you. I will list each week here and then for further check-ins I will reply to this thread. Here we go.

Week 1: 281.6- I lost 5.8 pounds the first week. I found myself hoping I could do that every week, but I knew that wouldn't be the case. But there is a bigger surprise here in the early going and I will relate that here in a minute.

Week 2: 278.6- 3 pounds down that week for a total of 8.8 lost.

Week 3: 277.6- 1 pound down that week for a total of 9.8. I was kind of disappointed that week, but I told myself that it was still progress.

Week 4: 268.2- That's right. I lost 9.4 pounds that week for a total of 19.2. I have no idea how that is possible and I kind of expected that some of it would be coming back the next week, but that proved not to be the case.

Week 5: 266.8- 1.4 pounds down for the week for a total loss of 20.6

week 6: 264.8- 2 pounds down for the week for a total loss of 22.6

Week 7: 262.4- 2.4 pounds down for the week for a total loss of 25

Week 8: 260.8- 1.6 pounds down for the week for a total loss of 26.6

Week 9: I was very bad that week and I did not have the heart to step on the scales and see a gain. So I didn't weigh myself.

Week 10: 258.0- 2.8 pounds down from 2 weeks ago for a total loss of 29.4. I guess I should have weighed myself the week before. I might have been surprised.

Week 11: 255.4- 2.6 pounds down for the week for a total loss of 32

Week 12: 252.8- 2.6 pounds down for the week for a total loss of 34.6

Week 13: 251.8- 1 pound down for the week for a total loss of 35.6

Week 14: 248.0- 3.8 pounds down for the week for a total loss of 39.4

That's where I stand now. Like I said, I will post in response to this original thread my weekly results. So stay tuned and I hope that we can inspire each other. :)

Hey, give my method a shot. It's like Weight Watchers without the fee. :) I think drinking only water has helped me out quite a bit. I was drinking a lot of regular pop and some beer. That stuff will really pack it on you if you don't watch it!

7. I had Lap Band Surgery two weeks ago.
I will actually be eating much like you are (when I get back to normal foods) but even then, I don't expect that kind of consistency. I've always been a slow loser and generally every other week or so. However, this time, I'm not even weighing myself at home so I'll just see monthly progress. I think I'm going to like it better that way! :)

I've given up Diet Coke and I'm drinking Propel or water instead and don't miss the soda at all!

2. Congrats Droopy! Sounds like you're doing great! I'd love to be able to
post some results like that, but alas, I'm having real trouble taking off any pounds at all. I've been loosing inches but have only lost about 5 lbs since June-July when I started working out and eating healthy. Seems the calorie in/out theory no longer works for me like it did in my younger days. It is working great for hubby though - the pounds are melting off of him, a bit too quickly sometimes I think, though he had a fair amount to loose. Addressing his sleep apnea accelerated his weight loss quite a bit. He was also a bit over 20 lbs lighter at the 6 week mark, and is still averaging about 3 per week.

Wow, if you ever figure out the secret behind week 4 be sure to share it. ;-)

I'm hoping to find a doctor that will help me figure out what my problem is. For now I'll just have to be happy with the healthy blood work lab results diet and exercise have given me. x(

Keep working at it. Maybe a nutritionist can help you sort out the problem. I hear they cost a little bit, but the expense might be worth it.

8. Yeah, as soon as I get up the nerve to go back to my doctor I'm going to ask her
to write me a referral to an excellent endocrinologist group that includes a couple of nutritionists. I've been taking my sister there, and they really do seem to know their stuff and have kept up with all the latest science.

I've been having "issues" with my doctor and to be honest, I've been too chicken to get back to her regarding an MRI that I just CANNOT do without being doped up - she keeps pushing for me to just give it another try. :eyes:

Sometimes I think she's just a sadistic wench that wants to see me have a coronary in that damned tube! :evilfrown:

I've cheated on my diet a few times, basically on the weekends when I get bored, but apparently I haven't blown it too bad. Someone told me that it is good to indulge every once in a while when trying to lose weight. I've done that even though I kind of felt guilty afterward. I guess I will always have issues with food, but for now I just want to get the weight off. I'll worry about my psychology when I reach my goal and start making plans to maintain a healthy weight.

10. That's an amazing weight loss
Edited on Sun Nov-18-07 10:37 PM by LuckyTheDog
Wow. My hat's off to you!

I am trying to lose almost 100 pounds. I am 5' 8" and topped out at about 260. I have been averaging a bit more than 2 pounds per week. I have been at it about 9 weeks and have lost 20. I figure that's not bad for a cubicle-dwelling office worker like myself. :)

My worst week so far has been zero weight loss (but no gain, either). My best week was 4.4 pounds lost. I have to go to the gym because I have such a sedentary job. When I work out more, I lose more. When I work out less, I lose less.

I am not sure yet what my ultimate goal will be. The books say that I should weigh about 165. But I think getting down to 175 or even 180 would be more realistic.

12. Thanks Lucky and congrats on the weight loss
Yeah, the books put me at 180 at the most, but I don't think they take into account the structure of your body besides your height. I am a wide guy, aside from the fat. Broad shoulders, big legs, somewhat muscular all over. I don't think those height/weight charts take that into account. People who try to guess my weight usually guess 20-30 pounds on the low side. I'm just that much wider than average with the weight distributed somewhat evenly over that big frame. My goal is 200 and I will probably be downright skinny at that weight.

That's 1.2 pounds down from last week for a total loss of 40.6. Not bad for the week of Thanksgiving. I also indulged a little last weekend when I watched the Ohio State game with my dad. Just a couple of more pounds and I will be half way to my goal.

I can feel it really good when I'm at work at night and unloading that truck. My wallet is going to be feeling it really good, too, here in a little bit. I only have one pair of pants that fit me and my shirts are like tents on me now. Time to go shopping for some new clothes. :)

19. 243.2 :)
That's 1.4 pounds down from last week for a total of 44.2. I had a terrible week last week at work and that led to some "stress eating." Might have done a little better if I would have had more control. But a pound and a half is still good news I guess. I am completely worn out. Delays in loading, a snow storm, and a breakdown all in one week will lead to a trucker putting in some serious hours.

That's .2 pounds down from last week for a total loss of 44.4. Almost not worth the write up. Actually, I pretty much blew my diet all last week. I went on a serious sugar binge and I guess I'm lucky that I didn't put on weight. I will see if I can correctify the sichiation next week.

25. Don't deny yourself what you eat, just how much.
Give yourself a budget and spend it in whatever way pleases you. At least for me, if I deny myself too much, I tend to rebel. A taste of this and that won't hurt you, unless it happens to be a known trigger food. But maybe you can make a deal with yourself that if you avoid that trigger food, you're allowed something else.

Good luck! :hi:

26. 239.6 :)
That's 1.4 pounds down from last week for a total of 47.8 pounds lost. That really surprised me. After Christmas dinners and cookies and pies I really thought I was going to see a gain this week. The last time I was down in the 230s was 5 years ago and only for a brief period of time. Back then I was in the midst of a major manic epsode that lasted for a couple of months and ended up putting me in the hospital. I went from 260 to 235 in a very short period of time without trying. I was amazed to see my weight on the hospital scales. Other than that I haven't been this light since right around my graduation from high school, and this time I'm doing it right and I'm conscious of what my body is going through.

Raise your glass with me in a toast to the 230s. Hopefully, I won't be here long. ;)

No change. Still at a total loss of 47.8. A couple of days off and another holiday splurge finally got the best of me. I'll be back to working 5 days a week next week. I've found it's much easier to stay on my diet when I have to work. I'm not sitting around bored. When that happens I start muching.

30. You're doing great Droopy. By your own admission, staying the same weight the prior two weeks
was a pleasant surprise. So you haven't really been "stuck" at the same weight for the last three weeks. That said, it might be the beginning of a plateau - they are pretty common after 3-4 months. Stick to your plans and it should pass. If it continues and turns into a stall, it might be time to add that bit of exercise to the mix that you alluded to in your OP. Hang in there, you're doing great. :hi:

That's 2.4 pounds down from last week for a total of 50.2 pounds lost. I had even adopted sort of a fatalistic attitude about not losing weight and I ate a few things I shouldn't have last week. 50 freaking pounds! Yes! Now I'm hoping that this will continue like it had before. Hopefully I won't be at 237.2 for 3 weeks.

35. That sounds like a good plan Droopy. Hang in there, it'll pick up again. The
body is an amazing thing in it's ability to adapt - even when we don't want it to. 2000 calories seemed like quite a big drop all at once from what you probably were consuming when you were 50.2 freakin' pounds heavier. I think giving it a week or two makes sense. I;m no expert, but as counter intuitive as it sounds you may want to go up just a tad on your calories or try mixing it up a bit so your weekly total is about the same but one day is bumped up and another down. Oh yeah and make sure you're still drinking plenty of water. That's one that I struggle with and the weeks that I slip on the water consumption nothing moves!

You're doing great - hang in there! :hi:
