I actually turned down the ice cream aisle last night
Edited on Mon Jun-01-09 12:03 PM by supernova
I was in the store for a quick trip, just needed dental floss and TP. :P

I was sorely tempted by the ice cream aisle, the Skinny Cow stuff, the Carb Right stuff, and so on. But ultimately, I didn't get any. I talked myself out of it.

Reasons:

1) Milk hurts my tummy.

2) None of it was as good quality as the occasional gelatto I have access to at a local bake/coffee/gelato store or whole foods. I like that better because I can just get a little 1/2 C portion and enjoy it. Not every day, but more like once a week. And much more interesting flavors too, like pineapple basil.

3) I won't have the stuff hanging around the house causing more damage to my waistline than one portion.

4) None of the stuff looks appetizing to me anymore compared to what I eat now. It looks artificial, air-filled and all designed to make be want more, More, MORE!!

1. I'm afraid to even go down that aisle!
If I buy a carton of ice cream I'll eat it, regardless of what I tell myself about putting weight back on, etc. If it's in the house, it's a temptation. If I really want ice cream, I'll buy one of the Ben & Jerry's tiny containers -- maybe half a cup -- and eat that. It satisfies the craving and doesn't leave another quart or so in the house to mess with my head.

Now that the summer fruit is here, I'm more tempted by a fresh peach or strawberry anyway. The dogs and I love snap peas and carrots so we eat a lot of those.

But damn it's hard to break decades' old habits! Chocolate!!! OMG. But I'm getting there, a little at a time.

2. Oh yeah, I have a hard time too
understand completely, Catshrink.

There's a company that does put out a commercial gelatto hazelnut flavor that I just LOVE!! But luckily for me, this store last night doesn't carry that brand.
