Just saw this book, and I'm wondering if you have read it and if so,
what your thoughts on the book and the subject are.

http://www.powells.com/biblio/1-0743249895-0">Female Chauvinist Pigs: Women and the Rise of Raunch Culture.

I've been noting the rise of this phenomenon since the early-mid 90's and was, frankly, shocked. OTOH, maybe I'm not seeing another side to this since, as a man, there is much that I fail to understand where women are concerned.

1. I haven't read it, but I have heard good things --
from what I have heard, if you are interested in learning about these things, it could be a good primer type book to add to your reading list.

2. Haven't read it but I'm familiar with its subject matter
There's definitely been this sort of "if you can't beat 'em join 'em" mentality being demonstrated by young women. Admittedly, I've been guilty of subscribing to it at times in my not-so-recent past. I think it's sad and disturbing, but not at all surprising. In a culture so steeped in misogyny and pornographic imagery, it's understandable that a lot of women would believe that they could gain access to power and privelege by going along with it. When a handful of women are very well rewarded for complying with the Porn Mandate, and women who fail or refuse to do so are penalized, it's only natural that you might think that being "cool" and "pro-sex" will benefit you. Ultimately, it won't and most women who buy into it find out the hard way, as I did.
