Bored With Rock and Roll? How About Shock and Roll? Now You Can Taser With a Beat
"Ever feel like shocking people just ain't what it used to be? Like your self-defense experience is a little bit...boring? TASER International, whose 50,000 volt "electronic control technology" has helped redefine "trigger-happy," knows what you're missing: a new leopard-print stun gun, and an mp3-equipped holster to put it in."
http://www.motherjones.com/riff_blog/archives/2008/01/6819_bored_with_rock.htmlI actually heard about this on the radio a few days ago. The leopard print and "hot pink" I thought was beyond tacky. The fact that it's apparently marketed toward women to protect themselves--at least in the radio interview it was-- I applaud. I would hope women would familiarize themselves with the taser, just as they have with other horribly necessary methods of self protection
What bothers me about the article is the emphasis on damage tasers can cause. If I'm at the point where I need to taz someone (And yes I do have one and fuck no it's not pink)I don't GIVE a shit how bad it's going to hurt, I'm going to be running away and screaming. Jesus.

"Taser parties? No kidding
GILBERT, Ariz. - Before she lets them shoot her little pink stun gun, Dana Shafman ushers her new friends to the living room sofa for a serious chat about the fears she believes they all share.
"The worst nightmare for me is, while I'm sleeping, someone coming in my home," Shafman says, drawing a few solemn nods from the gathered women. Shafman, 34, of Phoenix, says she knows how they feel. She says she used to stash knives under her pillow for protection.
Welcome, she says, to the Taser party."
