The Power of Femininity
Edited on Sun Jul-13-08 11:31 AM by ismnotwasm
I have several issues with this article, especially the referencing "studies of the brain", and the term "hardwired" My bullshit meter goes way up when I hear those two together. The overall idea, the meme, if you will, of the power of the feminine is an idea close to my heart. Gender roles/stereotypes as a rule are at best, annoying, but we live in the world we live in, so I chose to challenge misconceptions of what the feminine in my own way in my daily life. Mostly by verbally challenging friends (the ones who can rise to a challenge) when I hear some nonsense about how women are, or act. I've gotten into some great conversations that way.

I can't cut and paste for some reason, it's a short article though. Oh, it's sponsored by that Dove campaign.

...not another study--and on msn front page. :eyes: Ewwww. I'm having major issues with the fact that msn features so many of these, usually very sexist on one level or another. It's so frustrating because they are a big news provider, and some people take anything they read or hear from such sources as gospel truth/fact.

Fashion do's and don'ts (for women only, of course), studies that show women as inferior one way or another, or telling women there's yet another hoop they must jump through to "be better than they are." Ugh.

Got to find another e-mail provider. I honestly sometimes go days w/out signing in to that accnt. because the front page crap irritates me so much.
