OMG, you've GOT to read this
In omega minimo's thread. One poster was a little more self-revealing than he probably should have been, but this is PRICELESS (read this post and the several following posts as well):

Unbelievable.

Or rather, make that all TOO believable.

1. Jeezus!!
Oh boo hoo, cry me a river for those poor geeky guys!! Amazing. They want women who look a certain way and then get pissed because those women reject them for not looking a certain way. Hypocrisy, maybe?

2. Ha!
That exchange kind of reminds me of my ex-roommate.

She was a single parent of a 5 year old boy.

She would date guys and not tell them that she had a child until about the 6th date--later if things were going really well or if he had alot of money.

Then, she'd get pissed off if the guy dumped her because 1) She never told him upfront that she had a child (lying by omission) and 2)The guy didn't want to date someone with children.

I suppose those could be caddish attitudes of the guys in and of itself,

however...

SHE REFUSED TO DATE GUYS WITH KIDS AND GOT PISSED IF THEY DIDN'T TELL HER UPFRONT THAT THEY HAD KIDS.

She was purely insane, and although I thought quite differently at the time, the best thing that ever happened to me was when she changed the locks and kicked me out of our place the day after I paid rent for the month then had her shitty friend move in and steal all my jewelry and CD's

!!!

"THe pretty white chicks in high school were SO mean. They were so pretty and blonde, and I liked them because they were hot teenage sex vixens, unlike the dumpy ugly nerdy girls that I hung out with. But those beautiful cheerleaders were SO judgemental because they didn't like my geekiness and obviously judged people by how they looked. I fear I have been discriminated against" :eyes:

3. Wow!!
You're roommate does sound like a headcase! Let's face it, we can all be a little hypocritical sometimes, but the worst ones are those who don't even know they are hypocrites. I admit to one: I smoke. Not a lot, just a few cigarettes a day - but still. However, I prefer to date guys who don't smoke. I know, total hypocrite. But at least I admit it!

I've taken to calling it Shallow Hal Syndrome (after the movie) to describe guys who want smokin' hot babes who are a) miraculously blind to the physical flaws of the guys and b) mysteriously unaware of their own attractiveness to other, better looking and wealthier men. Keep dreaming dudes.

It certainly could be a factor in the resentment many people hold toward the "beautiful girls"

His remarks seemed pretty well reasoned, and s they say, the personal IS political. Alot of my understandings come from personal feelings.

Worse was the guy calling it "mountains out of molehills" and the gay guy chiming in with him, who was making jokes about how trivial the thread was, and it being nothing but a ploy to up post count. (He certainly thinks gay rights are worth posting about, though. I searched him)

There were a number of very insightful posts there, but unfortunately, I had to wade to find them---omega's idiomatic writing style in the thread was real hard for me to understand. If I had no experience as a feminist conscious woman, I might have been completely unable to understand it.

To be honest, sometimes Molly Ivins' idiomatic style confuses me too.
But anyway, I think omega had a very valid point--I just wish it had been expressed more clearly. The femiphobes took and ran with it.
