1. Oh sweet jeebus!
This is a reminder that I need to get checks to both PPFA and my local PP.

2. From signing on-line petitions
I have a long list of people seeking donations. The only ones I make it a priority to get money to are NOW, PP and Naral.

3. Thanks for posting about my link in LBN
I read that article and was horrified. I lived in Texas most my life, and know what horrible healthcare they have there, especially for the poor, and especially for poor women.

What really got me is that in trying to pull money from Planned Parenthood, to 'punish' them for providing abortions, they did away with a successful abstinence program by another clinic. And that they gave $5 million to crisis pregnancy centers, which are nothing but a front for anti-choice propoganda and adoption agencies out to make big money by taking advantage of young pregnant women.

7. I noticed that a few
on the thread in GD were kind of missing the overall point of your post. I brought it here--a place where such issues are honored.

I'm glad that you didn't mind. :hi:

4. Another observation on that thread
Only two men posted, the rest were women. The guys here at DU keep telling us how concerned they are with women's rights, but then a thread that has a major impact on women's health only gets two men to respond. Gee, color me surprised. Not.

5. ...
There are a few men of conscience I have noticed on DU, but most are either indifferent, ignorant, or hostile--or some combination of the three.

6. And incredibly defensive, too.
Kinda the way I used to be about racism, way back in the day. I wasn't a racist, so what were all those black folks complaining about? Took me a while to figure it out, but I finally did. I guess everyone progresses on their own learning curve.

I wish we could get more guys to drop the defensiveness and just listen. But instead they come up with ways in which men are discriminated against, as if that even comes close to making things equal. :eyes:

8. It's funny you should mention it in this context--
I've had it with the men w/blinders on AND the racists and homophobes on this board. I sometimes wonder if anyone notices such issues here, besides myself and a few DU'ers that speak up about it. The way you describe it is EXACTLY the way many behave here. Frankly, I'm sick of it.

It would be really nice, if on a progressive board we could ALL be supportive of one another. Instead of reading posts where assholes were asking us to defend why we have the right to be pissed off about said issues, we could just be pissed off and others were supportive of it.

It makes me sick that during this immigration initiative I've seen so much hatred and nastiness. Not much different than I've seen during the supreme court nominations when women were upset. Not different during Katrina, no different from the recent issues that affected the glbt community.

If I signed on to DU during a time that affected a group considered minorities in the world, and DU'ers were being supportive and trying to extend comfort, or asking how they could help fight for such issues--I don't think I would know where I was. :eyes:

9. Yeah, I just saw the thread in GD about the racism here at DU.
I'd love to see the same support if someone posted about the sexism here, but I've been around way too long to expect that. I am glad to see some of the newer members of our little group taking up the torch - I was diagnosed with severe hypertension in January and I no longer try to debate the those with no desire to learn. It is bad for my health.

10. There's a racism thread in GD?
I didn't know that when I responsed to your post. LOL. I'll have to go look for it. I guess others were upset about it, too.

It would be great, as you said if we got the same support for issues affecting women. I was really upset and hurt during the Roberts nomination (and Alito) that some told us to sit down and shut up. The ones that start in with the "...roe v. wade won't be overturned" especially make me sick.

I'm VERY sorry to hear of your hypertension. I'm glad that you don't duke it out in GD--I don't have high blood pressure but feel it could be in danger sometimes trying to fight with idiots.

:hi:

Be well,
bliss:)

12. Thanks for the link...
...there were a few threads w/racial themes, so I wasn't sure which one it was. I'll have to look and see why it got locked.

;)

13. Just finished reading it--
I'm sorry it got locked. The majority of comments were positive, and I was glad to see them. It's nice to think there is more care and concern for humanity than one would think to see some of the threads that have come out of this issue.

14. Oh yeah.
I've noticed. I'm just not sure what to do about it. Do you have any suggestions on how to combat this?
