"Children of Men"
http://www.childrenofmen.net/

Ok, I haven't seen it. I probably won't see it. I know the premise. Maybe it's an insightful, thoughtful movie full of relevant social commentary about women and men and their "place" in reproduction

BUT, I have to say right here and right now, just the title and the picture of the fetus pisses me right off. And I don't think I'm being sensitive. In no way.

2. I find it interesting...
that the movie website refers to it as a problem of women being infertile while the wikipedia site remarks that in the book it is the men who are not capable of getting women pregnant. Hmmmmmmm.

3. In the book, the emphasis was on the MEN being infertile.
The men are forced to have periodic sperm counts to see whether any of them have become fertile again. Haven't seen the movie, but I wouldn't be surprised if they changed that part.

5. Well, that just figures that the screenplay would
change the entire premise from the book. Of course, we can't have men feeling impotent about themselves. So let's just remove motherhood. Oh what a fucking crock of shit.

I swear. I hope they lose $ on this film. A lot of $$$$.

7. I've heard several people say that the movie is not like the book at all
I liked the book, but will not seek out the movie if it is so different. Here is a thread about it if anyone is interested. http://www.bookcrossing.com/forum/5/4113748

8. The movie SUCKED and that was the opinion of just about everyone
I know, male, female, straight, gay. I doubt very much it's even worth the price of a video rental. Not charachter development, no discernable plot, just a big long chase scene, but you weren't even sure what they were chasing the pregnant woman down for what? Society was so hopeless by that point, and nothing was made clear about what kind of hope a new child would bring for the future. For all we know, the kid could have just been shipped off to become more cannon fodder.

Anyway, I hated it as did my colleagues. Even Clive Owen couldn't save it.

6. It's a good movie.
You should see it.

The plot change to making women infertile fixes what would otherwise be a significant plot hole.

10. What are you doing in this forum?
I don't exactly consider you a feminist or even all that pro-feminist, or all that pro-woman, which means you're violating the guidelines for Groups.

9. I actually loved it.
Yeah, the title is a little creepy. But I didn't see any misogyny at all in the movie. It wasn't really about women, or fertility, but about a world without hope. The director created a dystopia that's really only an extension of policies already in place - w/Homeland security tyranny, terrorism, & discrimination againt immigrants. The plot didn't make sense sometimes, but it was beautifully filmed & acted. And oh my God - the ending!
