What are people's thoughts about the new NFL fan code of conduct?

The NFL implemented a new code of fan conduct Tuesday, warning that spectators who misbehave will be ejected from stadiums and barred from coming back.

The policy, first recommended by commissioner Roger Goodell at league meetings in April, is aimed at conduct that the league said “detracts from the gameday experience.”

It includes bans on:

— Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal.

— Drunkenness and signs of alcohol impairment that result in irresponsible behavior.

— Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.

— Interference with the progress of the game, including throwing objects onto the field.

— Failing to follow instructions of stadium personnel.

— Verbal or physical harassment of fans from the opposing team.

I'm a season ticket holder for the Giants. I have seen the worst offenders, and I hope they get thrown out when they are abusive or fighting with other fans. But I think its every fans right to yell at players on the other team and even their own team. I think the rules on language and obscene gestures are nuts, because what is obscene is very different to different people. I recall when TO pretended to moon teh crowd after a TD catch (I think it was TO) and Joe Buck, calling the game, said it was disgusting and offensive. I found it funny as hell. So its a problem having such arbitrary rules.
As for hurting anyone or interference with the game, throw them out.

As for the language or the obscene gestures, I am torn on that one. On the one hand, I am always in favor of freedom of speech on the other I could see people wanting to be able to bring their kids and not expose them to a bad environment.

I have a person I sell my ticekts to and we've been doing it for years. We'll keep it up at the new stadium. I give him a good deal on the tickets and he and his crew behave.

I think one would be crazy to sell giatns tickets on stubhub or ebay. Any a-hole can buy them.

We are going ot be able to scrap up the money though.

for that sort of money you should be able to drive the seat to and from the stadium.

But we will manage, somehow.

I've never been to a pro-football game, but my experience with baseball leads me to believe that such rules will make the game less fun.

When back in the late 1980's I went to a Pirate's game and sat way up in the cheap seats. It was an awesome sight to behold. People were hammered and screaming. Women lifted up their shirts. A few years ago I went to a White Sox game, again up in the cheap seats. The spirit of drunken revelry is gone, and it's a big loss.

But I would recommend any East End London club match to observe the dynamics of unruly behaviour.

West Ham FC and Millwall FC come to mind.
