I found this cheap and easy solar oven plan -- check it out
My friend who is "Camping with Cancer" http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3623156 was jealous when I told him I was making lasagna yesterday and I know he loves to cook, but doesn't have the means.

While we were talking, I found this for him to use with his cast iron dutch oven for lasagna and stews etc and thought I'd share..

1. Solar cooking is not rocket science
and all you need is a cardboard carton and a roll of heavy duty aluminum foil to make enough of a reflector to simmer a soup.

The problem comes in when you want a solar oven capable of producing baked goods. Those have to have an insulated box with a clear plastic or glass lid. Open cookers lose too much heat through convection and don't maintain enough of a reliable temperature.

My own solar dyepot arrangement was just a cardboard computer carton I'd refolded and stuck some Mylar to. Aluminum foil would have worked just as well, but I just had to get fancy.

2. i saw those plans too, but was concerned about his being able to
concentrate and follow the text well enough to construct one. He still has some cognitive issues.

If he tries this cheap and easy one, we'll see....
