1. I've gotten some great stuff out of dumpsters
but be very careful and don't actually enter the dumpster. You never know what's down there.

2. I never met a dumpster I didn't love.
I "rescued" 12 french doors, lots of windows, a pre-formed pond, 2 antique trunks, a park bench, and an antique piano (keys were ivory), plus lots of other stuff from dumps, landfills. I used to take a long pole with a hook on the end so I could "fish" in the dumpster, and a contractor's magnet (large one on a telescoping handle). Both were very handy.

Scavenging is against the rules, but I found most of the folks there were willing to turn a blind eye. Some would even help me load stuff, and I'd tip them when they did.

If you do go, be sure to wear the right shoes. You don't want to be slipping all over the place.

Good luck!

PS: it's very addictive!

3. I went for the coupons - I am going to go again, maybe tonight. It IS addictive.
There don't seem to be many places to go for non-paper items around here, everyone has compactors.
