I am so tired of job searching and nothing to show for it .

I see this section of the board does not have much traffic so whatever happens we will see .

There is not one damn job antwhere within a drivable distance that has to do with my years of experience , not one . Everytime I apply for something I know I could do I go there and am told I am over qualified and it's not much money , even though I tell them it does not matter to me they won't hire me , probably because they feel once I find something else i will blow out of there . find something else ? like what , there is nothing else , not one thing . Each interview just removes another bit of my hope and today I feel i am at the end of hope . I thought that the automotive trade would never die but I was wrong , it has , so many dealerships have closed of downsized that there is nothing left .

Also when you try to enter something you are not familar with i end up feeling sick after . It's almost do you put one bullit in a revolver and spin the chamber before you leave the house ? Jesus , I know i am not alone and often wonder when those who find themselves in the same frame of life will meet up and do something together to get through what's left of life if there is anything left of it worth going through . I was going to head out to New Orleans to see if I could apply my years of carpenter skills to help someone who has hope rebuild their life even if the pay was food and some form of shelter . But they don't have shelter or much need for my help that I can see . If I was alone and had no wife I would give it a try or fail .

I too, am told repeatedly that I am over-qualified OR that I don't have the qualifications they are looking for-- even though I KNOW that I could do the job I am applying for, if only given the chance. Once, I was even told by a recruiter that my resume' and qualifications were quote, 'laughable', and that if she were to pass along my resume to the company, she wouldn't get any more business from that company! Jeez, I felt pretty low that day!

It is VERY frustrating and depressing to hear 'NO' all the time. Especially when you are trying so hard each and every day.

I don't know what your skillsets are, but you mention that you are a carpenter? I am from New Orleans originally, and I know there are many, many people who are there WAITING for someone to help them rebuild. They really need the help, and are willing to pay for it too. And even if you have other skills (which I'm sure you do), there are lots of companies willing to pay to get you down there to work for them- and they will help you with housing. These would be ideas for you, especially if the job market in the area you are now living in hasn't panned out.

go there, and pick your city. There are a lot of liberal companies that post jobs of all sorts there. Try your hometown, and then also try the New Orleans area.

they were either a complete joke and /or paid next to nothing . I got a call from a Honda dealer to interview monday , I know fords and this is fine because it is a service advisor position it is 11 hour days from 7am to 6pm . Trouble is you are now on these survey ratings that Honda sends out to customers with cars within warrenty , so you don't please everyone in all their customer expectations this affects your pay . It's like a impossible challenge and all dearships have this now and the hours are a killer . I don't know if I will be hired of not and I do know the job but I hate auto work nowdays it has gotten really difficult and you get nothing but head aches .

I have been on craigs list for months and other sites as well , I really want to move out of calif I am sick of hot weather and crowds and the traffic here . Beside this I am so beaten down job searching i am now doubtful of what I want to even do for a job , most all of them leave me cold and uninterested but I have to work . I will see what the people are like at Honda this can make a huge difference who you work with too .

There's a whole group of us on this forum who just can't get jobs. Maybe we should all get together and start our own business. Maybe you can build it? :-)

What especially peed me off was people asking me to come for an interview when I had no chance in hell of getting that job, that is, they already knew who they were going to put in the position and were just going through the motions for legal reasons.

given raises in 2 years (I've been there seven) and I requested a meeting to go over my job performance and to ask for an increase. I completely came prepared (had an agenda, reasons why I felt I have earned an increase, statistics from salary.com showing I'm earning less than my peers (in fact, much less; I have 10 years of experience in my field, and the average salary for someone doing what I do with 0-2 years experience is earning, on average, $5K more than what I'm currently earning).

What did he do? Basically, treated me like shit and didn't commit either way. He said he'd meet with me again in a week or so to re-visit the raise issue. The following week, he didn't respond to my email request to set up the meeting. The week after that, I went to his office to set up a time to meet, and he wound up taking me to his country club (I am not lying). Very pretentious. What came of it? Still did not commit to giving me a raise. Know what? I'm done with him.

Sorry to vent; been holding this in for a while now. I did have a job interview last week, and I'm waiting to hear something this week. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I have a feeling they might think I'm either over-qualified or asked for too much $$ (I don't think so on either count, but you can never tell).
