Question for this group, particularly applicant screeners and those in positions to hire...
...when looking at a resume/application, does the name of the institution the individual earned their degree from really matter that much? Would it be a detractor if a candidate received their degree from an accredited online university? I'm currently exploring options for my M.S., and with being active duty Navy, schools like Kaplan, TUI, and Capella seem like the best solution for me. I greatly appreciate your insight. :patriot:

1. It's not a question of online vs in class....
I can tell you that I have seen more resumes from people with degrees from the University of Phoenix that were riddled with typos, misspellings, and bad grammar than any other school, so I admit I am skeptical about the value of their degrees.

However, many reputable schools have online programs now, and when the school is good, the online degree is usually good too. The problem is with for-profit schools more than whether the degree is online or in class. For profit schools tend to see students as customers, and their job is to get the person a degree, as opposed to making them earn it.

2. Agreed. I never even really considered Phoenix...
...I rank them right up there with Excelsior. TUI and Capella seem to be legit, according to a couple of individuals I've spoken to who earned their Master's from them.
