those of whom he was making fun, they'd be laughing their ASSES off, like his audience tonight

really mad he didn't spend more time on the roast though....already gone

why is he making fun of Clooney?

even if he's making fun of making fun of....too meta for me

81. I'm sure his character will earnestly bring this up, time and again ...
... just as he hauls out those Emmy and Peabody awards periodically. His onscreen persona will name-drop shamelessly, and mention how much all the movers and shakers absolutely loved his speech ... and how Laura Bush couldn't wait to get out of the room, to phone all her friends and say what a great job he'd done!

I already mentioned Jake Tapper's very guarded response to the Hindenburg reference. the little toady. From Salon to ABC ho in one short step.

he should. We have become a very fickle bunch around here ... Hero today ... zero tomorrow and no middleground. We have become a place of little tolerance to anything that doesn't fit our agenda ... at the moment.

My take ... it's a long fight ahead of us. I am not throwing anyone from the lifeboat just because they fart ... know what I mean? This too shall pass.

Hey, did you ever get to have that great long, hot bath or what? :)

he fucked up BIG time tonight, especially in his choice of guests

this was a seminal moment, and he threw down on the wrong side of this one.

not throwing him from the train, but Colbert did a very important thing, and he's helping throw the whole episode down the memory hole

very disappointing

64. I did see the thread
well, one of them anyway. But, as I said in the one post I made about it before, I didn't see the show tonight. I will catch it right after Colbert in the rerun though. If I don't hear something reasonable, I will follow my own advice and shoot him an email about it.

We ARE Keith's base and he knows it. He will consider what we say I think.

Milbank ... remember the guy that had the guts to show up on Olbermann's show in an orange hunting vest after Cheney and the shooting ... then apologized for it the next day? Milbank has no visible balls ... just stubby little teeth. He is a regular on Keith's show, but he is often the fly shit on the windshield of the show too.

Be disappointed that you didn't hear what you wanted by all means ... then make your voice heard by the person that disappointed you.

Keith needs some new blood to report on these things ... stir the pot ... change it up a little, but often, as he says, there are things that his producers force him to do. Make the case and see if we can effect a change. It could happen couldn't it?

stubby little teeth ... I think I will use that to refer to him in the future as well. It fits!

The ONLY person in the whole wide world who has ever stood face to face with the Spawn-of-the-Devil-Evil-Son-of-a-Bitch and call him on EVERY little bit of his Bullshit is Colbert. And the crappiest person in the world didn't even get it. They really do live in a parallel universe.

That Colbert is the only person to have ever done this act is just amazing to me.

62. you forgot Mrs.King's funeral...that was MUCH worse, in its own way.
people were deadly SERIES there, and he had to endure it for HOURS.

that was sweet

this was much more palatable

65. Not a single person, though.
And it was rather unfocused and didn't necessarily cover EVERYTHING PRETTY MUCH.

and while he sat there

there are TONS of examples, like this, of very focused attacks on the idiot, but here's just one....gotta go to bed

63. Colbert made "damning with faint (faux) praise" an art form.
It'll be interesting to see how 'history' treats it.

82. I'm stealing that line, TahitiNut
"damning with faux praise" -- perfect, because "faint praise" just doesn't cut it anymore, with Stephen Colbert around.

67. I emailed this to my wife earlier today:
"I was watching MSNBC and CNN. The way they "sort of" report on the Colbert thing is really spooky - hard to explain. I think the Colbert thing has made it so apparent that there are parallel universes. Some people are trapped between them, but we seem to be clearly in the reality-based side (or are we??!?!?). I've seen little clips of the Colbert thing today and it spooks me. It's like that Jim Carey movie The Truman Show."

Not sure what my point is in posting this, but it sure seems like Colbert stuck his head through the Matrix and now everyone's trying to describe it as another passing target of appropriate/innapropriate labeling of liberal gumption ------------- HE SPOKE THE TRUTH! Duh! FUCK! C'Mon ....

Sorry ... this whole deal is just too weird.

Bless you, Stephen Colbert.

68. Steve Gilliard at his NewsBlog touched on that....
"...Colbert does it in a different way, a much more humiliating way. Instead of coming out swinging, he uses obsequiousness to shame you, to point out your flaws and errors in a way which people cannot miss. Before you realize it, you're on the the floor, staring up, with his hand on your throat.

When you get beat by Stewart, you know you've had your ass kicked. There's blood on the floor, and he still looks pissed. When you get beat by Colbert, and he beat that room, you know something bad happened, but he's got a smile on his face and you hurt bad, but aren't sure why."

A very good commentary.
