Bwaaa! FoxNews is in a ratings race with the Colbert Report!
Was sent to Sludge for another story and saw this:

FLASH: Colbert averaging just over one million viewers year to date (1,077,000] on COMEDY CENTRAL, which is less than FOXNEWS's 6-11pm line-up...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, if we pretend that these are not supposed to be apples and oranges here, and that they really are news competitors, how long has Colbert been doing his half hour, four night a week show compared to Fox's 6-11 pm lineup? And why should we trust these numbers?

The Right Wingers are desperate.

12. Hi
Thanks for the greeting dicksteele. I appreciate the welcome.

I am enjoying trashing dubya on the board immensely. I can't bear him, so I guess misery loves company when it comes to having to put up with this chimp of a president (my apologies to chimps everywhere).:o

26. Good point. In a Freudian slip, they compared themselves to a fake news...
...outlet because that is all they are. They probably haven't even realized that yet because the comparison was done out of unconsciousness like everything else that propaganda operation does.

7. ratings
Also, the Colbert Report gets the demographic--18-24 year old males--that advertisers most covet. I highly doubt that Fox News' primetime show is attracting that crowd. Yeah, I'm sure Comedy Central is crying all the way to the bank on this one.

15. Fox has a problem. They are a propaganda network, designed
and operated to affect voting. They NEED eyeballs to attract advertisers, but the ones that are easily swayed are NOT the 18-24 demographic. That age group still has vestiges of their inate bullshit detection device...but they also buy a lot of "stuff".. What's a BS network to do.. The old curmedgeonly freeper-types love Fox because they keep the myth alive, but they are not the target demographic..:)

PS.. Welcome to DU :hi:

20. Right as, uh, Rain
sorry.
Yes. TIME magazine points this out this week. Colbert is one of their "100".
His audience is tiny compared to Faux. But. It's the demo advertisers want.
Faux is for the rightwing codgers who don't want to spend money or listen to "truthisness". Sounds like a good audience for O'Reilly. He can tell them to harrass a publisher of a newspaper who dared to bring up his settled sexual harrassment suit. Like he did last week. Turns out...the publisher O'Reilly started the "fatwa" against...has been dead since 2002.
What a newsman that guy O'Reilly is.

that's BS! What are your numbers you Fox Fucks - and BTW Colbert/Stewart are views by millions more as soon as their stuff goes up on cool liberal websites all over the INTERNETS.

Besides, Colbert has only been on 6 months. I don't know if TV ratings are similar to radio, (which I know about) - but Colbert would only have "one" real blue print of how his show is doing, since he's only been on 6 months

It's a different way of looking at things, but if they want to DEFEND- let them. Let them try. Let them bring it up more.

Colbert was FLAWLESS. The more they publicize what he did, it's all for the good.

It's a new way of looking at things, for us- but, for them, too. They're using the same tactics, that DON'T work well when you're feeling defensive.

SPEAK, DRUDGE! Let's hear it. ROFL.

Yet another consequence of satire. You can't publicize it.

In short: It doesn't give anything on the other side to SHOOT at.

I'd love to see them come up with any kind of decent response, short of apologizing for everything.

On at 10:30 here. And just in the morning replay in some markets.

I bet we will see wider play soon. Advertisers will follow the audience.

This may be how we ultimately take back the airwaves.

27. How do the numbers look if you add ALL the Colbert viewers
from the four times it is shown vs. just the numbers for the 11:30 slot?

Also, how do the TiVo numbers for Colbert compare with the Fox lineup numbers? I sure know a whole lot of people who TiVo or DVR Colbert and none that TiVo or DVR the Fox lineup.

These numbers would be very telling as would the demographics of each group--who has more spendable income and higher educational level!?

maybe something along the lines of his show having arrived seeing as his favorite cable network sees him as competition and him assuring them they are on the same team, lol. A poor example on my part no doubt as I am sure he will be brilliant yet again in how he handles this gift they have given him.

Especially since Colbert is on from 11:30pm to 12:00am! He doesn't directly compete with the 6-11 shift.

I wonder if we all pointed that out to them in some angry and condescending e-mail, I wonder if they would tell us the relevant numbers (11:00pm to 12:00am)?
