TV News Anchor Arrested for Statutory Rape

<snip>
MEMPHIS - You can see him almost every day greeting viewers on "Good Morning Memphis."

Now, Fox 13 news anchor Ron Meroney is making news himself after a Maryland grand jury has indicted him with statutory rape of a child under the age of fourteen.

"We did arrest him this afternoon around 4 o'clock at his home," says TBI spokesperson Jennifer Johnson. "He was arrested without incident and he's been served with that warrant."

The charges originate from the Sheriff's Department in Wicomico County Maryland.
<snip>

And, surprise, surprise, this is not the first time he has been accused of sexual assault of a minor.

<snip>
News Channel 3 has obtained police reports dating back 22 years ago in a separate Maryland County - Baltimore County.

Those police reports state that a "sexual assault" case was investigated in May, 1984 involving Meroney. They say that the alleged victim was a nine year old girl.

6. I don't understand
why he was allowed to get away with sexually assaulting a 9 year old girl, and served no jail time for that.

Those who keep insisting we should all trust the courts when a woman is raped need to explain that to me.

7. Anyone else watching Dateline re: sex with minors sting?
It's unbelievable that there are so many adults out there that want to have sex with children. What a sick society this is. One guy showed up for sex with a 13-14 year old boy, and brought his own 5-year old son with him!

I realize these people have to have a problem to be attracted to children in this manner, but when you have your own kids it just makes it so much worse, if that's even possible.

Very sad.

MIAMI (AP) - A former TV weatherman was sentenced Friday to five years in federal prison for going online to arrange a sexual encounter with someone he thought was a 14-year-old boy.

Bill Kamal, 48, was arrested in October after driving his Jaguar 90 miles from his Fort Lauderdale home to meet the boy, who was actually a federal agent. He pleaded guilty to Internet enticement of a minor for sex.

The Emmy Award-winning former chief meterologist at WSVN could have gotten 30 years behind bars.

Judge K. Michael Moore also gave Kamal lifetime probation "for the benefit and protection of society." Prosecutors had recommended only 10 years.

And where did he work? WSVN - the local Fox Affiliate
