1. He's rightwing, but I don't think he's a neoconservative, and he...
doesn't seem to subscribe to the neoliberal school of thought that advocates unfettered "free-trade."

I always thought he was old left: fights for unions, against outsourcing, against liberal immigration, yada yada.

4. He doesn't seem too union-friendly

He, to me, seems to be the old-school conservative, the kind who doesn't advocate rapid change like liberals but won't support regressive policies either that destroy the middle class.

I agree with him about "Benedict Arnold" corporations completely. I love it when he attacks the policies of outsourcing and unregulated free-trade and the culture of greed.

2. I like Lou Dobbs...
... I don't agree with him on everything, but I think his heart is in the right place.

Compared to the average cable news personality, he's an intellect and he's honest.

5. He just covered McGovern's confrontation with Rumsfeld. I give him
props for airing some of the exchange..and also proved Rumsfeld lied. What bothered me at the end, when Dobbs said it's good to live in a country where someone can (paraphrasing) successfully challenge the Secy of State. The person that was reporting with Lou then said, and yes, Rumsfeld did say this is America... Lou didn't correct him. It was McGovern who said it when he was on the verge of being escorted out of the place, and Rumsfeld told them to leave him there.

And why the heck don't they know McGovern by name now or how important he was when working for the CIA?????

8. Dobbs sounded like he was about to lose it with his own reporter
His own show's reporter (don't remember his name) was trying to defend Rumsfeld and Dobbs was insisting that Rumsfeld lied. The reporter also said that it wasn't Rumsfeld's fault because he wasn't in charge of intelligence gathering but was instead an intelligence consumer. Dobbs got pretty worked up at that point and stated that Rumsfeld, as the government's single biggest user of intelligence, was in fact in charge of coordinating intelligence on his own department's behalf. It seemed pretty genuine on Dobbs' part. I tend to think that from the way Dobbs' voice was cracking at the end, he just wanted to move on and didn't want to challenge his own reporter anymore, who was certainly not smiling at Dobbs at all.

10. Did it seem to be that Dobbs was mulling something over in his head at the
end of the segment. He seemed oddly detached and dispassionate to me.

11. The reporter that Lou confronted was Jamie McIntyre
Paul Zahn had McIntyre on her show to defend Rumsfeld after she interviewed McGovern and tried to argue with him. Zahn asked a reporter, McIntyre if Rumsfeld lied. This is journalism at a new low, one reporter asking another reporter to defend the political figure she could not successfully defend.

I could be wrong, however I remember reading he was a fellow at either the Heritage or American Enterprise foundation.
