7. Everyone should be accountable. Yes, DUI's kill tens of thousands
each year.
Bastards who drive drunk should go to jail.

22. those other things are very important, and i wish they were discussed
more at DU. Or in congress, especially.

Seems like the only topic really getting any traction here is colbert, and defending colbert, and more about colbert, past clips of colbert... it was a funny thing he did, but gosh, it wasn't that big a deal.

16. Remember Bill Janklow? Another reckless bastard.
He had many run-ins with the law for speeding. But since he was important, he was let go each time. Until he killed someone.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/01/22/janklow.sentencing/

Should it too have been a non-story? Nothing to see here... move on... no one hurt, just a few laws broken, privilege evoked...

I don't know exactly what happened in the kennedy thing, but there should have been a sobriety test. I would say the same of any congressperson.

I have had friends get the death penalty due to drunk driving... they were victims of same, not the drinkers.

20. I agree that the police should have issued a sobriety test...
if they had reason to believe that alcohol was involved. If the police didn't do so, even if they believed alcohol was involved, then then that is the problem of the police.

nor arrested, unless he committed a felony.
otherwise the police would have a problem with the constitution.

That's why next best thing is to have the media allege that he was drunk, and sentence him to ministry of information punditry.

21. I agree, if he's guilty of this, and was given a sobriety test to
prove conclusively that he was drunk, he should be responsible enough to accept the consequences. However, no tests were given, it's now too late to test him, and they're making mountains out of nothing, solely imo because he's a Kennnedy and a Dem.

26. Certainly there is an agenda on some people's part.
But like i said, everyone should be accountable.

Actually, even if it had turned out different, i would think the consequences if he had been proved to impaired would most appropiately have been just taking away a drivers license for a period of time. Not jail time, just take them away from cars.

23. So charge a congressman with drunk driving already.
And then tell me how many lives in Iraq that will save or how that's going to prevent a nuclear strike on Iran.

Maybe to interest the idiots at CNN they should understand this: It won't even help find a missing blond teenage girl in South Carolina.

36. I don't know whether he is or isn't
And if this were about one of Tom DeLay's crooked water carriers insted of a member of the Kennedy clan, I'd feel the same way.

OK, this may be worth a few seconds of air time. OTOH, we already know more about this than is necessary. CNN is supposedly a national network broadcasting world and national news. Why are they devoting so much time to missing teenagers, a sensational murder or congressmen caught driving when they shouldn't be?

39. I fully agree that this story, that does i think merit some discussion
will probably be overblown for the next few months. Way out of proportion.

Like the Halloway story, a very tragic one indeed. But it is a very local story, with consequences only for her family and friends.

comapared to illegal wars, and a president that deserves impeachment and being run out of office, it is trivial.

24. Looks like there's nothing to it
A car accident, late at night after Congress had recessed at MIDNIGHT? Sounds like a long day at work.
If officers thought he was drunk they would have done a field sobriety test.

Let's talk about anything but raising the minimum wage, health care reform or ending the war in Iraq.
