How much money DOES Bill gates have?
Edited on Fri May-05-06 02:38 AM by kgfnally
In reference to this thread, but as exactly as possible.

Preferably, to the penny.

(I don't know enough about the kinds of investments he has to know where to begin.)

edit: spelling, but not something the checker would, um, check.

1. His wealth fluctuates too much to give that kind of estimate

Plus, most of his private financial holdings are - private.

He does own over 700,000,000 shares of MSFT, which means he has suffered a paper loss of between $2 and $3billion in the last week. Hardly a rarity for him: In one day (4/5/2000) he lost over $12billion, but made most of it back in a week. On that same day, Ted Turner lost half his fortune (over $1billion) when AOL/Time Warner dropped sharply as well.

Gates was estimated to have around $46.5billion for the Forbes list last year http://www.woopidoo.com/reviews/news/rich-list-2005.htm
But it is likely that Warren Buffet has now passed him, as Buffet's portfolio is far more diverse, and Gates gives a considerable sum to his foundation each year.

7. heck, even i don't know how much i'm worth
i watch my finances like a hawk, but not everything has an instantaneous price.

how much is my house worth? i won't know for sure until i sell it.

plus, i have some employee stock options in the startup i work for. until we are bought out or go public, i can't know how much the company or my shares are worth.

and i most definitely am NOT "truly wealthy".

8. You could probably guess pretty closely though
And the less a person has the more easily one can accurately estimate.
