The Moussaoui verdict deals blow to Bush administration’s 9/11 coverup
Reasonable speculation that one will not likely find in the corporate media as it pursues the truth about congressmen and their car wrecks.

<edit>

This raises another aspect of the Moussaoui case, one that is of utmost political importance, whatever role it may have played in the jury’s deliberations. Why was the bit player Moussaoui on trial, and not those identified as the planners and organizers of the 9/11 attacks who are in US custody? Binalshidh was captured in September 2002, Mohammed six months later. Anything they may have known at the time about Al Qaeda’s operations has been extracted from them—certainly they can know nothing today of contemporaneous intelligence value. Yet they remain, perhaps indefinitely, in the custody of the CIA, facing no tribunal for their crimes.

There are two likely reasons why Mohammed and Binalshidh have not been brought to trial. The first is that they have been tortured so systematically that they are physically or mentally unfit to participate. The second is that if accorded the opportunity of a public trial, with competent legal counsel, they might well reveal embarrassing facts about the longstanding connections between Al Qaeda and American intelligence agencies.

<edit>

There is reason to believe, moreover, that these connections did not suddenly cease after bin Laden’s declaration of war on the United States in 1996. There have been unconfirmed reports of CIA-bin Laden contacts as late as the summer of 2001. And the European media has reported US government surveillance of Mohammed Atta throughout the period that the 9/11 attacks were being organized.

The fundamental unanswered question about 9/11 is how much the Bush administration and the US intelligence services knew of the plans for terrorist attacks, and at what level the decision was made not to interfere with these preparations, in order to obtain a suitable pretext for US military intervention in Central Asia and the Middle East.

<edit>

If the ultimate crime is being forewarned about 9/11 and then taking no action, then former CIA Director George Tenet, a raft of FBI supervisors, as well as Bush, Cheney and Condoleezza Rice should all be facing criminal investigations and indictments. It was on August 6, 2001 that Rice presented Bush a CIA memo warning of Al Qaeda plans to hijack airliners inside the United States, with the possibility they could be used in suicide attacks. The vast machinery of the federal government ground on without taking a single action to forestall the attacks.

was shot down in 1996. The fact that it was covered up has proved to be very tragic for the USA.

2. Mouse-owee's trial showed: FBI ordered to stand down
Imagine bringing the real 9-11 turds to the dock would show the BFEE, PNAC etc's grimy fingerprints on just about everything.

Here are a few of the names of the FBI guys who refused to get off their duffs -- in July 2001 -- to get a FISA warrant needed to open up Moussaoui's laptop (not that the law ever stopped the BFEE from getting what it wanted before):

FBI Agent Slams Bosses at Moussaoui Trial

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Mar. 21, 2006

(AP) The FBI agent who arrested Zacarias Moussaoui in August 2001 testified Monday he spent almost four weeks trying to warn U.S. officials about the radical Islamic student pilot but "criminal negligence" by superiors in Washington thwarted a chance to stop the 9/11 attacks.

FBI agent Harry Samit of Minneapolis originally testified as a government witness, on March 9, but his daylong cross examination by defense attorney Edward MacMahon was the strongest moment so far for the court-appointed lawyers defending Moussaoui. The 37-year-old Frenchman of Moroccan descent is the only person charged in this country in connection with al-Qaida's Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

MacMahon displayed a communication addressed to Samit and FBI headquarters agent Mike Maltbie from a bureau agent in Paris relaying word from French intelligence that Moussaoui was "very dangerous," had been indoctrinated in radical Islamic Fundamentalism at London's Finnsbury Park mosque, was "completely devoted" to a variety of radical fundamentalism that Osama bin Laden espoused, and had been to Afghanistan.

SNIP...

But Samit told MacMahon he couldn't persuade FBI headquarters or the Justice Department to take his fears seriously. No one from Washington called Samit to say this intelligence altered the picture the agent had been painting since Aug. 18 in a running battle with Maltbie and Maltbie's boss, David Frasca, chief of the radical fundamentalist unit at headquarters.

SNIP...

For each nugget of information, MacMahon asked Samit if Washington officials called to assess the implications. Time after time, Samit said no.

3. The CIA spiked the FBI's investigation of Moussaoui
Edited on Fri May-05-06 09:15 AM by leveymg
As usual, the framing of the debate obscures the facts. There seem to be two camps regarding the importance of Moussaoui. The first, promoted by the Gov't prosecution, is that Moussaoui knew enough so that had he told the truth to FBI investigators, the 9/11 attacks could have been thwarted. The second asserts that Zakarias is a lunatic who knew little or nothing important enough about the 9/11 attack plans to have substantially helped the FBI to prevent them.

Moussaoui has, himself, at various times attached himself to both camps. He's left us to guess what part of his testimony to believe.

The truth is, the CIA knew enough about the 9/11 attacks that had it cooperated with the repeated requests for information by FBI investigators who were seeking FISA warrants to open Zakarias' laptop, the Bureau surely would have had learned the identity of the principal 9/11 hijackers, and been able to track them down and make arrests before they got on four airlines on 9/11.

On his way to the US in early 2001, Moussaoui stayed at the same al-Qaeda safehouse in Malaysia where the the 9/11 attack had been planned a year earlier. He also received money wired by Ramzi bin al Shiebh, Atta's roommate in Hamburg, who had attended that planning summit in January 2000 along with the Flt. 77 hijackers. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/06/06/attack/main511244.shtml That planning summit was monitored by the CIA, which tracked al-Hazmi and al-Midhar when they entered the US on 01/15/00. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/knew/etc/cron2.html

But, FBI brass, knowing that the Agency was running the al-Qaeda cells inside the U.S., didn't want to step on the CIA's toes on this. So the warrant requests from Harry Samit and Colleen Rawley were actively derailed, and the efforts beginning in March 2001 when the FBI National Security Unit in NY learned that several of the 9/11 hijackers were inside the US were systematically sabotaged.
