Can anyone explain the case in Roe v Wade?
We all hear so much about this but what exactly was the case? Was there lots of media buzz about it at the time or has it only become big over the last 30+ years?

1. You may as well start from the wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roe_V._Wade

That's the basics. Move on from there.

2. It was HUGE! It declared that women had a right to make their own
medical decisions, that it was part of the individual Right To Privacy, and that this right could not be forbiddden by states.

3. It's from Texas
A woman, Norman McCorvey (who is now anti-abortion), sued the Dallas County DA, Henry Wade, to get a legal abortion. At that time, Texas and 45 other states either criminalized abortion, or had very cumbersome laws that severely restricted the procedure.

The Court ruled that states cannot ban first trimester abortions, arguing that the right to privacy should include the right to make reproductive decisions--consistent with the Griswold vs. Connecticut case of 1965.

Repeal of Roe vs. Wade would send the issue back to the states. States like California and New York would probably make no changes, while states like Texas would probably ban abortion within days of Roe vs. Wade being repealed.
