Bumper sticker conundrum. This really has my brain chewing itself.
Edited on Fri May-05-06 11:17 AM by KyndCulture
Maybe someone who is christian can tell me why this IS christian.

When I do my daily walk, I go thru the parking lot of an assisted living facility. Mostly eldery folks some with cars.

First time I've ever seen this car. Slightly rusted, Chevy Blazer, maybe an 01/02 burgundy and LOTS of jesus sticker and jesus fish things on it... But this one sticker has me in a conundrum.

"Don't look at the car, my real treasure is in heaven"

Isn't that awfully boastfull? Isn't that comparing a nice car (which it wasn't) to heaven? Isn't that comparing something earthly to something divine?

I'm confused. I actually looked around to see if the owner was in the lot to have them explain it to me.

1. It seems more like it's comparing an ugly car to Heaven.
The car means nothing because the person's "real treasures" are in Heaven.

2. Not only is it boastful...
...it also displays extraordinary Pride, one of the deadly sins that is sure to merit an express ticket downwards. Their 'treasure' may be in Heaven, but they're going to Hell.

4. An old shipmate of mine
who was a drunken, cussing, thrice divorced worthless sot of a Sailor not too many years ago, got married again and "found" Jesus. He knows now that he is saved and that he knows he is going to heaven. I had to laugh in his face. We no longer communicate.

17. You laugh at someone whose faith is important to him/her?
That's great. Really something you should be proud of.

21. I failed to share his side of the conversation
Since he found Jesus I was scum and should change my ways (I wasn't in his league when it came to being worthless.) And no way I was getting into heaven because I was a liberal. He's also working to replace the constitution with the bible, a typical "christian" in today's America. There is a large segment of "Christians" in America today that want their faith to be important to all of us. That ain't America. Read my sig line.

25. Blackmail, pure and simple.
A good friend of mine and his wife recently found Jesus. I made the mistake of telling them my personal belief (over beers, no less), and they went coo coo bananas. I'm emotionally lazy and until I find Jesus I'm going to hell.

The next time I saw them he told me his wife cried for my soul all the way home.

So now, if I don't find Jesus, I'm going to burn in hell for eternity and make her cry all the time. Forget my personal beliefs, I'm on the lookout for Jesus!

Blackmail, pure and simple.

26. Since this is America
they are free to "believe" whatever they choose but when they attempt to legislate their "beliefs" and force me and you to believe like them I get rather anxious for a civil war. They have no appreciation for the constitution or constitutional liberties and they get all pissy when I say so. After all they are so persecuted.

28. Prayer in schools was also part of our conversation.
To them, that's what's wrong with our country, all that porn, pot smoking, sex out of marriage, homosexuals, violence... no prayer in schools for our deprived children.

My response? We worship in our home, in the way we believe. I wouldn't want my son to be forced to pray to a deity we don't worship. Be it Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Ares, the Sun God, what(whom)ever. Pretty much a hot button issue for me.

29. Incredible Irony
"Christian Conservatives" smoke pot, watch porn, have sex out of marriage, divorce, are violent and most likely many engage in homosexual activity while away from home (business trip honey, wink, wink.) And yet they are all going to heaven. Its great to pick and choose in the bible the passages which justify your hate and ignore the parts that would be inconvenient to follow.

Visit gay bath houses while on business trip - good. Homosexuals - bad.

3. My first thought is that this person does not want to be judged by h/is/er
material possessions?

Sort of the opposite of the belief that those that are blessed are rich, like the social darwinists.

12. The "W" sticker really makes it confusing!!!
Edited on Fri May-05-06 11:25 AM by BrklynLiberal
I would think that would be the exact opposite of someone who would support "W"..but one never knows.

Guess they support him because he was "chosen by God" to be Pretzledent.

See? that's what I thought too.
I thought it meant my car is a POS but God has better plans for me then next to it is a W 04 sticker...

Then I chewed my brain up all the way home.

19. THAT is the hypocrisy of religious people who support Dimson!
How can they support him and what he does, and still think they will go to the heaven they believe in?

6. I think it meant the opposite of what you're inferring.
I think it was saying, "don't judge me by the battered jalopy I drive, my true bling is in heaven." Kind of like those stickers on a beater that say "my other car is a porsche," except this sticker is essentially saying "my other car is a heavenly chariot guided by angels."

If the sticker was on a luxury car, I'd certainly do a double-take.

8. They are saying they don't care about their treasures on earth, only
their spiritual well-being. The car is ugly, because they are more worried about doing what they believe is right than in building their treasures on earth. It's also a play on a Bible verse about building treasures in heaven and eschewing them on earth.

I always rather liked that message. It's in direct opposition to the Pat Robertson message of greed.

14. Matthew 6:18-20
8so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Treasures in Heaven
19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

when the Rapture occurs.

You could have asked him if you could have his house when it comes. From experience, they hate it when you say that.

for around here, that would be considered a nice car. I live in the frozen tundra, everybodies car is rusted. But this was a nice ride IMO.

That article is so right on. Thank you for that. Ok, not nuts... can go about the daily activities now.

posessions (lets car rust, does not buy a new one), and looks forward to Heaven.
