Way to go, Big Oil! Let's show America we're all in this together! :sarcasm:

Chevron, the second largest oil company operating in New Orleans, will pull up stakes and move to the north shore, signaling the city's biggest corporate departure since Hurricane Katrina....

The move will affect 500 employees who returned in March to the company's 935 Gravier St. office, which was heavily damaged by Katrina.

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said he expects "some companies to relocate and some companies to come in" as the city recovers from Katrina.

"I am disappointed in the timing," Nagin said. "I was hopeful that some of the big companies would make decisions to help stabilize this community, but obviously they have other thoughts.

Other thoughts, indeed: "Let's get out while the gettin's good!"

If there's a Chevron station near you, check out the price per gallon (then drive on to the next station down the road to fill up). How much of these windfall profits will be used to help them abandon the city and build a sterile, Atlanta-style corporate campus with no access to transportation? :grr:
