Mom versus the Wingnut

My mother works in customer service, and one of the guys where she works is a surly, sarcastic, hateful wingnut who rides roughshod over employees he doesn't even have authority over. He's a major fan of "Rushbo" and often plays the program loud enough for the customers to hear. Of course, he has a hard-on for the Kennedys, and Mom suspected he was going to try to antagonize her with the news of Patrick's accident the other night.

My mother does not intimidate easily, but El Wingnutador has most of the rest of the office staff cowed in submission. Nobody likes him, and nobody really respects him, but they're scared of him, although I have no idea why. Well, actually, I do -- there are several handicapped people where my mother works. So this swaggering little ex-rent-a-cop who has, among other things, gotten in trouble for shaking down 76ers for free tickets, rules a "roost" of easily intimidated people. And my mom.

So, this morning, Mr. Wingnut shows up around ten, and promptly holds court in the kitchenette near the coffee machine. Mom went to get a bottle of soda, and promptly the great untended sewer of the wingnut's mouth was opened.

"Hey, what about your boy, Patrick Kennedy, getting drunk and having a car accident? Like father, like son, right?"

In front of four other workers, and without missing a beat, Mom replied:

"Yeah, but I read that it wasn't booze, it was a reaction to drugs. He must have gotten them from Rush Limbaugh."

They say you could have heard a pin drop. Swagger boy turned white as a ghost and kept his mouth shut for the rest of the day.

Yeah!

By the way, she'll be 70 in two weeks.
