Holy. Freaking. Crap.
*inhale*

OK, let me see if I've got this straight...Goss fired basically out of the clear blue sky, no reason (more time with family, health, abducted by aliens and viciously probed, etc.) offered in any way, said bombshell story steps ALL OVER the Kennedy car crash/rehab story which promised to dominate the day's news, and you gotta agree with TPM that these Bush folk would rather light their genitals on fire than get in the way of a perfectly good Kennedy story, so this wasn't in any way choreographed, which makes you wonder if Tony Snow has fully grabbed the reins, and if so, how he feels after screwing up so spectacularly the handling of the first big story of his tenure...

*exhale*

*inhale*

...and then we go next level, which is Foggo the procurement puke being swept up in the Duke Cunningham cash-and-prostitutes extravaganzas at the Watergate, and by the way, if you're not thrilled that the word "Watergate" has been reborn into our current context, you don't have a pulse, but regardless it seems crystal-clear the Duke is flapping his lips, cooperating his indicted ass off, as probably are the others who have been swept up in this thing, and some say Goss has been canned for bringing in the Fog Man in the first place...

*exhale*

*inhale*

...but you gotta wonder, considering the switfness with which the axe was dropped today, if maybe Goss isn't also a target of the Cunningham catastrophe, since it was a defense contractor looking to bribe his way into selling their wares to the intelligence community who provided the hookers and cash and those, ahem, poker parties, and Goss was chair of the Inteligence Committee before hopping into his now-concluded stint as chief spook, and maybe he is in this thing as deeply as Cunningham, because who better to offer a bribe to regarding contractor work for the intel community than the chair of the intel committee...

*exhale*

Yeah. Break's over.

110. I know ....
... the english teacher from Massachusetts is cringing at the "Your back ...."

My 4th grade nun/teacher would be chasing you around the classroom with the Peter Pointer this very moment, while the other kids pick their noses and watch quietly, glad it is you this time, and not them.

You are back - You're back

'Your Back' .... Literally: his back .....

Hey - I'm just the substitute teacher today ... Will will be back after a short sabbatical.

Oh yeah .... Hey Will ....

44. That's not what I saw and heard. I figured I'd check all three "network"
evening news programs to see if they led with Goss or Kennedy, and NBC led with Goss -- and stayed on Goss for quite awhile. I flipped over immediately to CBS and then ABC, and both of them led with Kennedy, so I went back to NBC for more of the Goss story. Was surprised, and even more surprised that they used (I think) the entire first segment before first commercial on Goss.

Tickled me to see the Kennedy story pretty much wrapping up anyway, with Patrick's wise decision to announce a new trip to rehab right away instead of letting the "scandal" get bigger while he tarried. Not only wise, but he did it in a dignified, courageous way. I was actually quite proud of him ... seemed he was demonstrating for all the Repugs caught up in their own scandals how a respectable person should handle such a turn of events!

And surely we would have heard the Kennedy incident dominating the airwaves for many more days at the very least -- IF Goss hadn't been ejected so unceremoniously! You got it right, Will, the Goss drama totally stepped all over the Kennedy story! And I'm sure many salivating Repugs were very sorry to see THAT happen.

113. I'd like to add one more
Cheney's remarks regarding Russia were stunning to say the least. I can't believe, with the neocons trying to do the same to us, he has the nerve to attack another country. Where is the outrage for these hypocritical remarks?

Moscow -- Vice President Dick Cheney delivered the Bush administration's strongest rebuke of Russia to date on Thursday, saying the Russian government "unfairly and improperly restricted" people's rights and suggesting that it sought to undermine its neighbors and to use the country's vast resources of oil and gas as "tools of intimidation or blackmail."

"In many areas of civil society -- from religion and the news media, to advocacy groups and political parties -- the government has unfairly and improperly restricted the rights of her people," Cheney said in a speech to European leaders in Lithuania's capital, Vilnius. "Other actions by the Russian government have been counterproductive and could begin to affect relations with other countries."

88. In this case, we'd probably want Negroponte to succeed.
Albeit the idea of Negroponte being the sole voice of sort of sanity in the current regime is a little scary in and of itself.

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/050106B.shtml

In a replay of the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction charade, neoconservative supporters of George W. Bush are pushing the U.S. intelligence community to take a more alarmist view about Iran's nuclear program-only this time, the nation's top spy John Negroponte is resisting the pressure unlike former CIA chief George Tenet.

Tenet joined in Bush's hyping of the WMD evidence about Iraq-famously telling the President that the case was a "slam dunk." But Negroponte is defying hardliners who want a worst-case scenario on Iran's capabilities. Instead, he is citing Iran's limited progress in refining uranium and their use of a cascade of only 164 centrifuges.

"According to the experts that I consult, achieving-getting 164 centrifuges to work is still a long way from having the capacity to manufacture sufficient fissile material for a nuclear weapon," Negroponte said in an interview with NBC News on April 20.

"Our assessment is that the prospects of an Iranian weapon are still a number of years off, and probably into the next decade," said Negroponte, who was appointed last year as the Director of National Intelligence, a new post that supplanted the traditional primacy of the CIA director as the head of the U.S. intelligence community.

22. Wilkes, the indicted Contractor, is the one who is talking, apparently
According to Harper's last week, and several other articles, and Ed Rollins on CHarlie Rose, this case is going to be big, engulfing many on Capitol Hill and according to most of those articles members of the CIA and intelligence community

Harper's even mentioned Porter Goss last week and told us to 'stay tuned'. I think they have a more in-depth article coming out this week. Maybe the WH got an advance copy?

Duke Cunnningham is already convicted and in jail, so unless they are willing to shorten his jailtime, I'm not sure he is talking now. Isn't he supposed to have been at the parties?

Then there's the limo Company, with a manager with a bad criminal record, who also has a big contract from Homeland Security.

Not to mention the Prostitutes (were they both male and female?) who may have already talked and given names.

And we thought that when the Duke went to jail, that would be the end of that story. I read that he had ties to Abramoff also ~

And we still don't know who let Jeff Gannon into the WH, and who gave a man with a fake name and no journalistic creds a WH press pass?

Maybe the Feds shoult talk to him again. His profile was geared towards military worshippers. And these people were all so pro-war!! War profiteers spending the spoils of war at the Watergate Hotel!

Maybe THIS scandal will finally do it!! It has SEX! That was the missing ingredient from all the others!

His plea and deal depends on him having told all that he knows. If he witheld information, he goes back to the chopping block. As this stuff is coming out elsewhere, he may be scrambling to remember stuff now.

And oh, Jeff Gannon -- how could he not be part of this? I can't wait to see him drawn in. Was he coyly waiting in one of those limos?:bounce:

They so wanted to keep that secret. I appreciate that you are going along with what will be their cover story...the money and hookers and all, but you let out the alien probe secret. That was classified!

King Tut's Penis Rediscovered
By Rossella Lorenzi, Discovery News

May 3, 2006 — King Tutankhamun's rediscovered penis could make the pharaoh stand out in the shrunken world of male mummies, according to a close look into old pictures of the 3,300-year-old mummified king.

- snip - (ouch)

Photographed intact by Harry Burton (1879-1940) during Howard Carter's excavation of Tut's tomb in 1922, the royal penis was reported missing in 1968, when British scientist Ronald Harrison took a series of X-rays of the mummy.

Speculation abounded that the penis had been stolen and sold.

"Instead, it has always been there. I found it during the CT scan last year, when the mummy was lifted. It lay loose in the sand around the king's body. It was mummified," Zahi Hawass, chief of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, told Discovery News

I'm also thinking that the we will never know what they actually have on the Goss players because of the behind-the-scenes deals that are being made to keep a lid on this shit. The CIA professionals have the real goods on all the players and some of this is blow-back for Plame and the blame game over 9/11 and Iraq. this shit is only going to get bigger because there is no way that they can keep a lid on everything and only the die-hard ditto heads will be drinking the kool-aid.

68. Will....Obviously you`re not thinking clearly.
These two-bit stories about Goss, Foggo and Cunningham are attempts by the LIBERAL MEDIA to sidetrack voters away from important issues. Did you see the scratches on Patrick Kennedy`s car? Did you? There are DOZENS of them and they are DEEP! Also, THE LIBERALS refused to let Republicans give us our $100 gas check. I don`t know the exact story, but somehow THE LIBERALS took over Congress for a day and voted against me getting my gas check. Consumer rebates are very important during a time of war because our soldiers in Iraq can`t go shopping here right now which means the true patriots have to spend extra money. These are the issues we should be talking about, not some made-up stories about Mr. Foggo or President Bush`s low poll numbers.

I'm so glad that you've returned to DU. I agree with your analysis in the final paragraph. Goss was indeed in a very tempting position to accept bribes, being the chair of the intelligence committee. Something else is going on, and my bet is Cunningham.

Was he at all connected with Plamegate?

I thought that B* didn't fire him; why is everyone stating that as fact now? Is it mere conjecture? If he knew that he was going to be implicated in the Cunningham debacle, or in neuveaux Watergate, wouldn't he have resigned rather than B* firing him?

:)

From the London Telegraph, May 6, 2006:

White House staff said that the move was part of the planned White House shake-up which has seen senior staff depart or be reassigned in recent weeks. The resignation was the result of a "mutual understanding" between Mr Bush and Mr(Goss).

But Bill Kristol, editor of the Right-wing Weekly Standard, suggested that a scandal might be about to break.

The move may also be the result of an power struggle inside Washington. Mr Goss is known to have had a troubled relationship with John Negroponte, America's newly-appointed intelligence supremo.

On edit: TIME: Disgraced Congressman 'Wore a Wire', January 6, 2006

Washington's power players have always bragged about being well-wired, but for disgraced former congressman Duke Cunningham, "wired" wasn't just a figure of speech. In a week when legislators are focused on the question of who else might be brought down by ex-lobbyist Jack Abramoff’s cooperation with prosecutors as he seeks lenient sentencing over his two federal guilty pleas this week, sources tell TIME that in a separate investigation, ex-Rep. Cunningham wore a wire to help investigators gather evidence against others just before copping his own plea.

snip

An FBI spokesman declined comment. Asked whether Cunningham, an ace Navy fighter pilot decorated for his service in Vietnam, had worn a wire, the spokesman said the response from a higher-up was, "Like I'd tell you."

We are a nation of the people protected by a very strong and principled military. Thoguh it may of appeared to not of been...it took some changes at the top of the military command. 107. So how many times do you think Gannon was there?
Rove, Norquist, Cheney?

Any one of them could cause meltdown.
Now, imagine there are pictures of el presidente
en flagrante.

Goss goes down to stop the story. See, end of story. Except it won't be. A toxic fog is going to roll in, and roll on a lot of folks who felt almost secure a few short weeks ago. Maybe Goss does not want to go down alone-- maybe the list of potential presidential pardons is getting too long for believability. Maybe Foggo will turn out to be a tenor. They didn't even try to save Goss. That means something big and unacceptable is bubbling to the surface.

Wilcommen im bunker. Josh and Snowjob talking furiously sotto vocce in back corridors, to Rove who doubtless has both of them bugged like Kissinger anyway. Also like Henry, Rove believes he will walk out of this into private consultancy. Would Condi try to move Dubya toward as much reality as he can swallow, knowing that he is about to do something in Iran that is truly irreparable? Donald is completely delusional, so much so that if this were another country, he'd have been fragged by now -- he might just spill the beans when axed.

The saner, smarter guys in the bunker are hoarding the cyanide capsules and are looking for orange jumpsuits to escape in. One has even asked Cheney to shoot him in the face. Ah Cheney, the capo di tutti cappi. The president of the sovereign, no-bid state of Halliburton.

In short, these folks are so high on speed, graft, danger, and Straussian cultic ecstasy that any one of them getting within 5 yards of the football should be stopped for the good of mankind.

That's his trademark.

As Goss takes a big embarrassing hit, a la Cunningham, Rove will respond by replacing him with a "take no prisoners" tyrant to keep control of the growing rumblings among the masses, doing whatever it takes not to lose power and the prize.

It's going to be an "interesting" summer.

134. Actually,
Six days, but who's counting? Glad to have you back. I know that when you're away from here, you're still doing important, great stuff, but when you're gone, it feels like an important family member has gone AWOL. I know it's weird, and even unsupportable probably, but this place feels like family, the kind that's large, dysfunctional and amazingly wonderful.

Welcome back!

129. Bush's poll numbers
are dropping faster than shit through a goose. Be careful of what you say and do. Didn't the bald warthog Ari say something like that? This takes Fitzgerald off the radar. Who will be the first to take the Hermann Goering exit?
Our President is a nut.
Rubber Stamp Republicans: Without them Bush's failed policies would still be a hair-brained agenda.
Thank Zeus I'm a Democrat:grr:
