Fox Omits Vital Piece Of Info In "Reports" On Fred Phelps
Have you seen these reports that Fox News has been doing on the protests by the Phelps family at the Iraq veterans' funerals?

They express (appropriately) "outrage" that people would have the gall to stage a protest at the funeral of an Iraq war veteran. But they imply that the protesters are some sort of "anti-American," dirty hippie lefties, that stand against everything that is good about "our values."

They conveniently leave out the crucial fact that the main message of these idiots is one of hate against homosexuals. It's not given even the slightest mention.

They selectively show their protest signs. The ones that say "God Hates America" are given prominent display. The ones that say "God Hates Fags" are nowhere to be seen. They even selectively crop individual signs. They'll show the top of a sign that says "Toe tags," but crop out the bottom of the sign, which surely says something about "fags."

The Fox News producers are truly sick. At least the evil lunatic Phelps family is honest about their beliefs. That's more than I can say about these "reports" on Fox News Channel.

1. Only on FAUX
Every other channel always mentions the reasoning for the protest, but FAUX wants to try and put it on Liberals.

2. They can't admit
that when Rev Phelps turns on the news it's Fox, ideologically speaking they're one of their own.

8. very true
I received a magazine in the mail today that contains an interview with Shepherd Smith, and he still insists that FNC is "fair and balanced." Of course, if he didn't, he'd probably be fired very quickly.

I had a brief change of heart about him during the Katrina coverage. For those few days, he seemed real and honest, like he had both a brain and a heart. But that was swiftly "corrected." Sigh...

No wonder Cheney has all his hotel tv's pre-tuned to Fox.

3. That's just...words fail me.
The Phelps family SOLE reason for being is hatred of gay and lesbian people. Period. This is a crusade of theirs that has gone on for many, many years. They have been seen at all kinds of events relevant to gay and lesbian folks...the 1992 March on Washington (I was there and I saw them), rallies (they were also in Chicago when the Reverend Gregory Dell, a Episcopal priest, announced that he was performing same-sex marriages,,,non-legal, of course. Yes, the Phelps family was here, protesting him and his church)

Even in relation to his clan protesting at the funerals of our servicemen and women killed in Iraq...it's because the dead soldiers were fighting for a country that "tolerates homosexuality", to use his hateful words...it's STILL about homosexuality.

It's either the shoddiest of journalism or unbelievably ignorant not to know this. But, of course, it's Fox News, so that does explain everything.

6. it's been a regular, continuing series
I've been seeing them for the past couple weeks, on many of their shows.

(I have "news" on in the background most of the time I'm home, whether it's Fox, MSNBC, or CNN. Admittedly all of it is junk, but Fox is so shameless...)

14. I watched it - video description
A clip from Hannity in April -- A short mantage of clips from a phelps protest - "fag" signs shown prominently -- then a brief bit of clips about IOWA working on making all demonstrations at funerals must be 500 feet away (I believe from the main entrance to the cemetary or church)
Then we go to one of the Phelps female nutballs and Hannity. Neither he nor Colmes gets much of a word in edgeways once it gets started. Hannity manages to call her nut and does manage to ask her what her sins are - which shuts her up for a total of 4 seconds. Pretty much it's the Phelps idiot spewing about God's law and how he's smiting the sinful.

One of the few times I've ever seen a guest manage to keep Hannity from spewing.

15. thanks!
I'm glad Hannity got shut up for a few seconds. Too bad it was someone even crazier than he is. (Notice that I didn't say more evil. Hannity is probably just as evil... just a little smarter.)

Thanks for the description!

Sean Hannity is interviewing one the Phelps daughters. She totally defends the protests at funerals and everything else. It's not real long and Hannity pulls no punches

12. I've had several people mention to me the
"war protesters" who protest at funerals. A couple might be Fox watchers but others are liberals who saw it on local news or papers. It was around the time motorcyclists were going to block the protesters.

Of course this disturbed people and they asked why peace protesters would protest there. What they read or so made no mention of Phelps being right wing loony, the "fags" signs or any of that. They all had the impression it was our side.

I found that disturbing! Fox does it because they are Fox, but local papers and news should make it clearer. They might not want to offend or use/show words like fag but it gives a BAD impression of true peace protesters.

13. I was absolutely shaking with rage when I saw it
Edited on Sun May-07-06 04:08 AM by Syrinx
I've seen it before in the past couple of weeks on various shows.

But the one I saw Saturday night on John Kasich's show had me literally shaking with rage. So profoundly dishonest it was, and this from a guy who pretends so hard (and convincingly, really) to be a mainstream, honest, midwest fellow.

I swear I would have shot the tv screen out, if I had only a little Elvis in me.

I don't know why I watch this shit. Maybe I want to keep an eye on the enemy. Or maybe I just like to be pissed. I'm not sure.

I think this is very important.

This is Rove's work no doubt. This is what you can expect more of as the mid-terms roll around. Exactly.

18. no that's NOT the REAL question
And you know it. You're just trying to be... well you tell me.

Are we just supposed to ignore what people are watching, and stay in our safe little cocoons?

I'm telling you that Fox News is an early indicator of where Rove and his team and minions are going as we head into the midterm elections. It's no coincidence that Tony Snow is the new press guy. Or do you think it is?

They try to stain US with the sins of the gay haters, dressed up as anti-US hippie freaks. You want to let that go?

Would you like to try to analyze their evil strategy and outsmart them?

Or would you rather hurl vague, ghost-like accusations at your own allies?

It's your choice.

watch whatever you want...i'm guessing that faux news presents it's "news" in a manner that you find easier to comprehend...more power to you.

i'll stick with the "grown-up" news.

19. You used a great word in a post in this thread: "deceitful."
ABSOLUTELY. Nothing could be more crooked, more misleading. They are trying to implicate others who have NOTHING in common with this destructive creature.

He is very much acting out the very position they play to in their audience.

I hope we all live long enough to see these slimes get their desperately needed swift kick in the rear. It's been on order for a very long time.

Deceit is the only way they can win this fall. (Including voting machines, of course.)

I think we need to watch that stuff to keep an eye on the enemy. I really think that's important.

If there is not a Democratic sweep of Congress this fall, then I know (for sure) the machines are fixed.

31. Phelps only pickets liberal tolerant churches, not the rw fundie ones
Where I live in N.C., Phelps targeted only the most open minded and tolerant Presbyterian, Baptist and Methodist churches for protests because he and his followers are obsessed with their war against gays. The more conservative right wing intolerant churches are okay with Phelps.

a video or article where Fox has done this?

It would be a very powerful piece of evidence against them and a tool the "blogosphere" could use to throw in the Foxnazis faces.

Hey, I made up a new word--Foxnazis.

Not bad.
