Get Ready New Poll: Fox News: most trusted news source in America
I'm sure we'll be hearing about it ... at least from rightwingers. On the other discussion board I post on, it's already been posted twice so far by the rightwing bushbots. I'm forwarning you just in case you, like me, encounter family, friends or co-workers who are big on Fox. It will, likely, be their big news to try to spin on you:

Saturday, May 6, 2006

The Fox News Channel is the most trusted news source in America, according to a new poll released by the BBC and Reuters that surveyed 10,000 news consumers around the world.

Asked which news source they most trusted, 11 percent of Americans named Fox News - more than any other news source in the U.S.

Fox News led the broadcast networks by substantial margins, with ABC coming in at 4 percent, NBC - 4 percent and CBS - 3 percent.

As posted here:

and here:
http://discussions.pbs.org/viewtopic.pbs?t=54895

Further down in the discussion at link, I have posted a link to the actual poll results. NewsMax and Fox are undoubtedly skewing this one.

"11 percent of Americans named Fox News - more than any other news source in the U.S."

1. That's not trust. It's deaf, dumb and blind faith. Personally I get

my news directly from God.

He speaks to me through my toaster.

I dial light for good news and dark for bad news.

13. If you think that's funny................

For years FOX was banned in Canada because it
refused to provide Canadian content in their
programming which is a requirement for broadcasting
in Canada under the NAFTA rules.

FReepers love to crow about how marxist Canukistan
censors FOX news.

The Canadian government (CRTC) finally relented and allowed
them on Canadian Cable.

The Cable companies test marketed FOX and their customers
weren't interested so the Canadian Cable companies,
(Shaw and Rogers) refused to buy it.

Note Shaw and Rogers are not leftist by any means.

2. Actual results from original source here.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/02_05_06mediatrust.pdf

This is an Adobe PDF -- an interesting read. Skip to page 10 for the numbers - UNPROMPTED mentions were equal for Fox and CNN at 11%

There's a Reuter's article on it that puts Fox and Al Jazeera in the same category. (which amuses me considering righties believe Al Jazeera to be the single worst propaganda machine on the planet)

A whole whopping 11% trust Fox News. Wow! now if we can just find out who the other 89% or so think.

6. Correct me if I'm wrong...
...but the fact that 11% 'trust' Faux, and that's the highest rating of any mainstream news source, tells me that nobody trusts any of these shills as far as they can throw them. 11% is a shit rating. I wouldn't trust them to tell me the time.

11. Isn't it ironic? Don't 'cha think?
An untrustworthy news report about the trustworthiness of news outlets spun into a claim of victory for the most untrustworthy news outlet of all.

Alternative headline: FoxNews wins first prize in a shit eating contest. First prize? A big bag of shit.

12. That's what makes this guy's take on this poll so laughable
If I didn't know better, I'd think this was actually a Colbert skit:

14. It certainly reads like one, doesn't it?
I particularly love the smug way the poster thinks he's seen through all the lies of the 'liberal' media to the real truth. As far as I can tell, his belief is based on the fact that Faux presents their stories in a 'factual' manner while other sources dress the stories in commentary. Well, that's all the proof I need. I mean, if your presentational style is factual, you must be telling the truth, right?

Another hoot is the poster's insistence on 'proof.' As far as I can tell, the poster regards something as proven if he's read it in a couple of other places. Well, that's pretty rock solid as far as I'm concerned.

I had to read it twice to be sure it wasn't meant as irony.

It's the reason the Colbert thing really hit home with me. Some of these people could be fill-ins for Colbert -- seriously! Yeah, this guy's a hoot. And he means every word of it.

17. Did you read this part. I wonder if fox did?
The most trusted global news brands among those tested include the BBC (with 48% across the 10 countries saying they have a lot or some trust) and CNN (44%). Even though Internet web sites in general do not receive particularly high trust ratings, three Internet portals received the next highest prompted trust ratings across the 10 countries; namely, Google (30%, a lot or some trust), Yahoo (28%), and Microsoft/MSN (27%).

19. Yes, I got that part
And every article I've read about this study, the results of which I found with just a short search and have posted in the OP, failed to focus -- or didn't even mention -- this aspect of the survey. The NewsMax version notes it, but skews the poll, as their title suggests: Poll: Fox Most Trusted News Source in U.S.

Of course when one reads the entire survey -- one can see that that is not really an accurate extrapolation of the data. All in all, it was a lousy survey, at best, and the media's interpretation of the data is even worse.

18. Polling base? Street people who have probably heard what Fox calls
themselves, but who haven't seen much TV themselves and would probably watch a cop or comedy show before they would watch Hannity & Colmes or Brit Humes?
