Numbnuts tells graduates job market is best it's been "in years"...
...maybe in 5 years, specifically (he was appointed prez in January 2001):

Bush says job market best in years

STILLWATER, Oklahoma (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Saturday said the U.S. job market was the best in years, as he pushed an election-year effort to convince skeptical Americans that the economy is thriving.

SNIP

"The problem is that, you know, we're in war, and sometimes it's hard for people to get a positive message about the economy when they're troubled by, you know, scenes of violence on the TV screens," Bush told CNBC commentator Larry Kudlow in an interview on Friday.

Following the release of Friday's jobs figures, Bush made an appearance at a Capitol Hill hardware store to buy some toys for his dog, Barney, and hail job growth that he said was being driven by small business growth.

"The job market for college graduates is the best it has been in years," Bush said in the commencement speech.

2. My company has had a hiring freeze in effect for two years.
But then again, why should we expect Bush to understand the intricacies of having a real job?

4. "Would you like fries with that?"
Yes, there are plenty of jobs out there. Unfortunately, most of them involve plastic name tags and paper hats.

On a side note, I'll avoid making any OSU jokes here. Being a proud OU Sooners fan, it's not easy. :banghead:

8. yeah, right, asshole...
more BS from a silver-spoon pseudo-Texan from Connecticut who's never had to look for a job in his life.

Tell that to my brother, just got his JD a year ago...so far, he's had ONE temp job...which just ended because the case was settled out of court.

Yeah, great job market...if you want to flip burgers.

12. Well, Bush, first off, we are at war because you chose to be
and, secondly, I hardly see how us being at war should only affect 99% of Americans, but the 1% who are your base, the top 1% in personal wealth, don't seem to have to sacrifice a damn thing.

Moreover, what kind of "leader" uses such a fantastic opportunity like a commencement address to simply make excuses for his poor performance?

13. I've been watching the market for IT jobs
for years. I mean actually looking in the national employment job ad sections regularly, and it's NOT the best it's been for years. It's the WORST it's been for years.

15. headline article in today's Detroit News says fast food jobs are scarce

Students are losing summer jobs race

More experienced workers are competing for permanent positions in tight Mich. job market.

Dorothy Bourdet / The Detroit News
May 8, 2006

Job seekers will face stiff competition for summer work in Metro Detroit as the local economy continues to sputter and the jobless rate hovers well above the national average.

-snip-

Richard Brown has rarely seen a worse job market in his 30-some years with Henry Ford Community College's job placement office in Dearborn.

"A little over a year ago, we would have at least 500-600 jobs on any given day. Today, I'm looking at about 250 jobs," Brown said.
"What we're finding is that (employers) are putting jobs on hold or they're saying, 'We can't hire, we're losing jobs ourselves,' " Brown said.

"Everybody is holding their breath with what is going to happen with the auto industry."

A mechanical engineer trained at the University of Michigan recently wandered into Brown's office looking for work, while another student confessed she was living in her car while she searched for a job to pay for school.

16. What an ass. What a liar. Want to hear my story?
I was living in Tucson, AZ at that time, got laid off from Lockheed Martin in May of '01, spent 4 months looking for a job while collecting CO benefits (I worked for Lockheed both in CO and in AZ), and an opportunity landed in Pittsburgh, PA in July of '01. Phone interviews went exceptionally well, and they decided to fly me to Pittsburgh for an orientation (and wife was delighted because it means closer to her family in New York by 6 hours drive). The day before I was to fly to Pittsburgh at the company's expense, the CEO decided to issue a hiring freeze, and the recruiter (who was based in Seattle) and I was stunned. We spent several weeks trying to push them to lift the hiring freeze but to no avail. To this date, they have never hired me.

THat sucks. After 9/11 hit, and flying to New York on 9/15 (We had planned a flight to NY for 9/12) it just hit me, that things will never be the same. I was right - after 10 months of being laid off and living in AZ for a year, we decided to move back to Denver, and Dad has hired me, part time, for 800/month and SSDI benefits, been like that for 4 years now. Wife works too with DFAS (Dept of Defense Accounting) through a contractor.

So we're doing OK, but I *could* do better.
