The fish story has been changed on AOL!
It is now a largemouth bass, not a perch.

Go to http://articles.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20060507222709990013&ncid=NWS00010000000001 to read the story and to vote whether you like his comment or not. "Not" is leading by a big margin.

20. That's not a picture of him fishing on his "ranch."
Edited on Mon May-08-06 08:09 PM by Boo Boo
That thar fish is a Striper, or Striped Bass, sometimes called a "Rockfish" in NE. That shot is probably taken during a visit to his Parents in Maine. It doesn't weigh 7 pounds either. In fact, it is a rather puny fish. Not a keeper.

I suspect that the translation was incorrect when this story was first reported. A 7 pound perch would be one big ass perch, and it's a fish that is commonly fished for in places like Wisconsin. In Texas, on a private pond, he's probably fishing for Bass.

Bass, Perch... Whatever.

5. Okay, that picture is not the one he "caught" on "his" lake. I wanna see
a picture of THAT one. You know damn well -somebody- got a snapshot of his ...perch? which has morphed into a largemouth bass..........IF it actually happened.

7. And what's scary is his comment is probably true in his pea brain
mind. Big Ed was on today saying if it was a perch it would have been a world record. Bush even lies when it comes to fish stories.

15. The Interesting Thing About That Is Not That The Species Of Fish Changed.
It's that now he was just "joking" that the catch was his best moment. The liberal media is at it again.

President Bush, here fishing in Maine, joked that the best moment of his presidency was catching a "7 1/2-pound largemouth bass on my lake" (not pictured).

16. If Bush thinks that's a Largemouth, he's as adept at identifying fish...
as he is at finding WMDs or catching Osama bin Laden. It's a Striped Bass, not a Largemouth; the former is the freshwater cousin of the saltwater Striped Bass, identified by both its color and markings; the latter has yellowish sides with a single mid-side line running from tail to gill and an olive back. Here thanks to Michigan's Department of Natural Resources is a picture of a Largemouth bass:

http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10364_18958-45681--,00.html

As you can see it's nothing like what Bush has.

Moreover -- speaking as somebody who caught his first trout at age seven and has been a fishing fanatic ever since -- freshly-caught fish are typically too limp and slippery to be held up that way. Except for the markings, which begin losing their brilliance as soon as the fish dies, that fish Bush's holding up looks too stiff to have come from anything but the freezer.

But as to the perch/bass confusion, I'd blame the press: most of today's so-called "journalists" have never set foot in the country, much less fished a lake or stream. Fishing is a "blood sport" you know -- not politically correct. B-)

it's no wonder that one of his fondest memories would be when he wasn't "working." :eyes:

crappie. ;) Shows you how much he knows about fishing. All the perch I have ever seen are tiny. Besides, I know he has caught bigger fish at Kennibunkport.

19. Liar liar pants on fire!! He opened his mouth again.
"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5 pound perch in my lake."
The only problem is that the world's record for the largest freshwater perch caught is 4 pounds 3 ounces. http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/05/bush-tells-german-paper-he-caught.html
