Enron Testimony Ends; Lay Says 'God Has Blessed Me'
Jury Deliberations To Begin May 17

POSTED: 8:39 am PDT May 8, 2006
UPDATED: 3:58 pm PDT May 8, 2006

HOUSTON -- After 54 witnesses in more than three months, testimony ended Monday in the federal fraud and conspiracy trial of Enron Corp. founder Kenneth Lay and former Chief Executive Jeffrey Skilling.

The two defendants appeared upbeat shortly after the jury was released for the rest of the week.

"We feel real good about where we are right now," the 64-year-old Lay said outside the Houston federal courthouse. "We think, in fact, in the end we're going to prevail."

"God has blessed me and my family enormously. He's been in that courtroom every day. He has a plan and a purpose in this and I have complete confidence it's going to come out fine," Lay said.

6. What a fraud. How contemptible can you get?
Nothing like finding religion when you are cornered. How obvious. He was happy to take hundreds and hundreds of millions out of Enron and leave thousands who had planned on a decent retirement destitute. Now he claims he knew nothing, like Sgt. Schultz. But he was happy to take those millions then, boy howdy. Too late. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Life imprisonment sounds good to me. No doubt in a nicer jail than Rikers Island, but that's OK. Just put him away. Forever.

8. So what are the predictions from the local watchdogs?
I have to believe some Houston newspapers are voicing opinions on what they THINK is going to happen here. I've tried to keep up, but I get very little info on the Houston trail, here in Ga.

Lay CAN'T say anything but I feel good, that's just SOP. I'd like to know what the reporters who sit in the court room every day are saying.

As an accountant for many years, I'm going to be VERY PI**ED is these two AH's walk away from this disaster!

12. isn't there a commandment that says
don't use the Lord's name in vain? I think Lay's remark woud qualify for breaking that one.

the laws dont apply, the rules of physics have no meaning, logic has taken a holiday, and science is no longer relevant.

So in the eyes of Kenneth Lay, he's saved.

14. Oh good, now God is a co-conspirator
"God helped me screw those little old ladies in California on their energy bills."
"He wanted me to be rich betond my wildest dreams and he didn't care what I did to get it."

He didn't actually say that, he was thinking it.
I'm so sick of Republicans today, I could......well, don't ask.
