"If you take Iraq and immigration out, Bush's numbers would be higher."
That was the rationalization I heard from a caller on Orlando's local right-wing blowhard Bud Heddinger's (I refer to him as BudHed) show today. The caller went on to say that it's all a liberal media conspiracy to smear our great and noble leader.

Heddinger proceeded to say that he thinks there have been some fantastic moments in the Bush presidency (the conversation was about Bush's fish story). The "best" thing about Bush is that it's been almost five years since terrorists attacked us on our soil.

You read that correctly. The Bushbots are saying that the best thing to happen to Bush is....nothing happening.

Please, don't let "well, we haven't been attacked since 9/11" slide as an excuse. We've been attacked hundreds of times since then, because our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq are easier targets than operations here. And besides, fucking 9/11 shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Here's a really handy link:

http://archives.cnn.com/2001/US/04/30/terrorism.state.dept/

April 30, 2001..."A senior State Department official told CNN that the U.S. government made a mistake last year by focusing too tightly on bin Laden"

4. If Bush weren't doing so dreadfully, yes, I imagine numbers may be higher
Incredible logic there.

Oh, of course, Bush gets credit, because although he severely fucked up on an unprecedented scale in terrorism prevention, so far it hasn't repeated itself on American soil. Really, I thought once was bad enough...

I mean, does it really matter that he had all those failures? Anybody can make mistakes! so what if the only events that stand out in Bush's administration are embarrassing? If we ignore them, then they will go away!

16. MEME: Better Them Killing Us Over There Than Killing Us Here at Home.
Edited on Tue May-09-06 02:12 AM by Leopolds Ghost
That is the Republican argument. Pass it on! Tell all your "Republican" neighbots.

"Better Them Killing us Over There than Killing Us Here at Home,
right? I'm no expert but it seems to me that's Bush's argument.
In fact, he said that! You can look it up!" <-- Old Reagan Tactic

That is the new MEME we need to be spreading. Democrats need to learn
to re-word Republican arguments and turn it against them if they ever
plan to win anything.

Republican Culture of Corruption.

Put The Christ Back in Christianity.

Casting Americans Adrift in the Global Economy. (Katrina Allusion)

Better Them Killing us Over There than Killing Us Here at Home...

right?

I didn't think so! But why did Bush say this? (Let them answer.)

If they reply, "that's not what Bush said,"
and quote chapter and verse at you, say:

"Not only did he say that, he also said he was not concerned about
Bin Laden! He joked that the W.M.D. would turn up under his desk!
And he encouraged Al Quaeda to kill American soldiers in Iraq, saying
it would 'strengthen our resolve'. How Irresponsible Is That?"

Where upon most Republicans -- if you're conciliatory enough in your
tone of voice - will be inclined to make nice and say, "well, you're
right that Bush is a problem. The whole thing is a mess." Then they
will rethink their own position, if they're at all thoughtful. Just
like most liberals do every time NPR tells them the Republicans have
a point (which is every day now.) Because we all like to think we're
thoughtful people.

(And remember, the less educated they are, the less likely they are,
statistically, to share Bush's beliefs once you overcome the
pro-globalization, pro-Armageddon, neo-con propaganda.)

20. Throw out Katrina, the economy, environment,
health care, education...

The only thing holding him up a few months ago was terrorism; last I checked the specifics he had finally fallen on that which is why we're seeing this plummet. He's got nothing and is just going to keep going right down the toilet.

27. Same rationalization about Bush's numbers among Democrats.
Only the factor being taken out was "black voters." If not for those pesky American citizens who exercised their right to vote, Bush would have done better. They're (Bushbots) not too subtle, are they?
