A couple IDIOTS flew by me on bikes a block from my house!
I was walking to a bodega (aka a corner store) when I heard this loud whine. Suddenly two bikes passed a slow moving (30 mph city zone) car, one bike on each side. I had already crossed the street, but there was a mexican lady with an infant and two little kids. This family was STILL IN THE STREET when the pair of bike flew past (the bike must have been going 80 mph). The lady pushed her baby carriage against the curb and lifted the two kids on to the sidewalk. Then, as she was trying to look at the bikes as they screamed (the only way I can describe the sound of their engines - screaming!) away, she somehow tripped and fell to the ground. As she fell she pulled one of her kids down with her. I didn't see her fall, but noticed her when a couple of thugs on the corner tried to conceal their laughs. She was okay.

Anyway, in todays newspaper, there is a story about a bike crash that occurred on Saturday. It sounds like the same guys. I feel bad because I distinctly remembered thinking, "Those dudes deserve to meet the street." Apparently, one of them did.

4. The fact that it happened had everything to do with their riding
and nothing to do with your wishing.

Magic ain't real.

And you were right. They deserved it. Bikes have a hard enought time with people who won't 'share the road'; bozos like these guys only make it worse for responsible riders.

Narrow residential street with elementary aged kids in 5 of the 7 houses on the block and assholes are always driving 50-60 on our road.

16. We have several assholes in my area that do wheelies on their
noisy japanese bikes right on Ventura Blvd in the middle of heavy traffic, weaving around and trying to go 80 mph. I hate to see it, but I am comfortable knowing that they will only get away with it so long before meeting the pavement rather abruptly.

Assholes. If someone wants to kill himself, I say go right ahead--in fact, in the case of people like this, I encourage it--but let's not endanger other people's lives.

29. Actually, they were pretty thoughtful
they hid the fact that they were laughing (they turned away, didn't let the family know that they were laughing at them). One even asked the lady if she was okay. She looked scared as shit to be approached by this guy, and I don't think that she understood him. They weren't bad guys, they just looked like gangsta thugs.

14. Those are effectionately referred to as "rice burners."
The bikes, that is. They're Japanese motorcycles, and their engines make the sound you describe. American motocycles, especially Harleys, sound more thunderous and less precise.

Are you in California? I noticed that motorcyclists in California like to make their own lanes in between the cars in existing lanes.

31. nah, i'm in Newburgh, NY
although I once did see an awful accident outside of stateline, CA / Primm, NV (on I 15).

Two trucks were driving side by side, headin west toward LA. A pissed off lady PASSED the trucks on the median. She then slammed on her brakes once she got in front of the truck in the fast lane. The truck slammed on the brakes.

While she was forcing the truck to slam on its brakes, a motorcycle was passing in between the two trucks. Somehow he got crushed between the two trucks.

I was heading east on I-15 at the time. I didn't see the accident, just the effect of it.

25. Yeah, you're pretty open minded. We should all laud the actions of
assholes who run down the vulnerable and innocent in the streets for their own amusement. It's a very admirable quality.

I stand by it. The best possible outcome is for assholes like that to kill themselves before the maim or kill others. It's called natural selection. Oh and one more thing, if you think I give a flying squirrel turd about your notions of either liberalism or my worthiness to live you live in a small narcissistic place.

26. Lots of "warriors" - fat, middle-aged men - grace our mountain roads
on the weekends.

Now, I enjoy a nice bike ride myself, but only with safe, sensible riders.

Some of these padded, Weekend Warrior geeks have no concept that they must "share the road." It's as if our community and roads were made solely for their once-a-year jaunts up here. "Fuck the locals!" is their motto.

This weekend, two riders ran a light to cut in front of me so they could get in front of me on a curvy mountain road. I was on my way to work, and really not in the freakin mood to play "See if I can make this curve, Fred!"

I didn't tailgate the freaks, but I damn sure made them move along, and honked when they couldn't keep the speed limit. They could have caused a wreck cutting in front of me, but it turned out the old fat farts COULDN'T handle their bikes on the curves. What do you know! Make me late to work while you prove you still have balls?

It really pissed me off. People like that should have padded little Kindergarten tracks to ride on. Stay off the mountain roads, Billy Badass, unless you can handle them.

Sorry to rant mdmc. I love motorcycles, but I get sick of the idiots who think this community is their personal playground.

30. and for every biker that crashes from his own stupidity
there are ten that are taken out by inattentive drivers in cars/trucks/SUVs. please don't judge all motorcycle riders from the actions of a few. i doubt you'd want to be lumped in with the "liberals" that would take extreme action like burning hummers to prove their point.

news flash, the world is full of self centered assholes, some on bikes, some in cars, some on foot.

how about you spearhead an effort in your community to create a place where people that want to ride fast and put themselves in danger can do it legally in a controlled environment?

36. I could care less about a "place where people can ride fast"
They can do that on their own private property. Otherwise they should follow the law. I mean, we already have interstate highways. These guys were cruising down Robinson Ave http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=South+St+%26+Robinson+Ave.&csz=Newburgh%2C+NY+12550&country=us&new=1&name=&qty= (this is where I actually saw them) and crashed on the twisty mountain road, Rt. 9W. The bike was 275 feet down the mountain!

In NYS the speed limit is 65mph. There is no safe place to go 120 mph. This is the first death of the season. We will have over 30 by the end of the year. I would never use tax payer money to build roads so bikers can act crazy.

40. I don't have any sympathy for stupid bikers.
Matter of fact, a dude that worked for me wiped out on a cafe racer, flew 50 feet and had his leg ripped off by a guardrail.

I especially wish bad things on the dudes who speed by at apeeds in excess of 100MPH on the hwy and weave in and out of traffic.

If they're gonna ride like an idiot, they deserve whatever's coming to 'em.
