Story here.

Midday Business Report: April job growth misses forecast
By DIANE STAFFORD
The Kansas City Star

U.S. employers added 138,000 payroll jobs in April — about 62,000 fewer than economists’ consensus forecast and the smallest increase since October. March payroll growth also was revised downward from 211,000 to 200,000.

The jobs report was issued this morning by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Economists attributed the modest jobs growth to several factors, including increased productivity and higher wage costs, both of which had been reported earlier this week.

If existing workers cost more but are producing more, employers have less reason to add to their payrolls.

Not only that, but according to the same Bureau of Labor Statistics report, 72% of the 131,000 jobs created are in domestic services, with waitresses and bartenders accounting for 55,000 jobs or 42% of the total job gain.

Dennis Hastert, loves the fact that we are actually turning the corner and becoming a neo-con wet-dream; a nation of domestic servants, where everyone exists to service the top 10 percent in income. Meanwhile we have 10,000 fewer manufacturing jobs than a year ago, due to off-shoring, while we still managed to consume $800 billion more in goods and services than we produced.

1. Eventually, the "creative accounting" they've been using....
to tout the "booming" economy is going to catch up with them. It's all smoke and mirrors. The economy is not good, and it's structurally damaged for anyone who's not rich.

2. Dead end shit jobs - no future, no benefits, no security.

The shit is beginning to hit the fan. The dollar is dropping and gold is going through the roof. Gas and oil prices are high and going higher, putting the pinch on the money people have to spend. People are canceling vacations this summer, which will have a huge impact on the economy. People are changing their driving habits, not going to movies, not going out to eat. Iran's oil bourse is set to open using the Euro as its currency, which will push the dollar lower.

Bush's "strong economy" :eyes: is about to come to a grinding, screeching halt. Just in time for the elections in November. If we had accurate and honest voting in this country, the Repugs would be summarily tossed out on their fat asses, but since we don't, who the hell knows what's going to happen.

I'm expecting a civil revolution, because it really does seem like people are getting a gut full of the Republicans and The Bush Crime Family™.

3. But...
...their only reporting the bad stuff.

What about the good stuff? I just hired 2 extra gardners, and a maid to clean my 17 bedroom Mcmansion that I bought with the money I saved outsourcing 3000 jobs to India

Damn Liberal media:eyes:

5. I'm happy for ya. When does that trickle down effect start for us peons?
And I'll bet those 2 gardners are illegal aliens, right?

Must be nice to be one of the inner circle... ;)

I think Bill Maher said it best. "Trickle down economics sounds remarkably like 'we're pissing on you'."

4. From the new Republican Party Song Book
They used to tell me I was building a dream, and so I followed the mob,
When there was earth to plow, or guns to bear, I was always there right on the job.
They used to tell me I was building a dream, with peace and glory ahead,
Why should I be standing in line, just waiting for bread?

Once I built a railroad, I made it run, made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad; now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?
Once I built a tower, up to the sun, brick, and rivet, and lime;
Once I built a tower, now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?

6. During 2001 and 2002 the US economy lost 2,298,000 jobs.
These lost jobs were not regained until early in February 2005. From February 2005 through April 2006, the economy has gained 2,584 jobs (mainly in domestic services).

The total job gain for the 64 month period from January 2001 through April 2006 is 7,000,000 jobs less than the 9,600,000 jobs necessary to stay even with population growth during that period. The unemployment rate is low because millions of discouraged workers have dropped out of the work force and are not counted as unemployed.

9. Yep, and many of those "new jobs" were...

...mcJobs and Wal-jobs, and now the wal-jobs are going away.

I personally worked in IT for 10 years in the 90's,and had to switch careers to Electrical Engineering, at a massive paycut, because my job as a Network Design Engineer got offshored to India. And I am damn lucky to have the job that I have, and lucky that the company I work for provides benefits.

In my humble opinion, they need to do away with the NAFTA's CAFTA's, and the rest of the *FTA's and dismiss it as the failed experiment that it really was.

8. How many new jobs does it take for the economy just to stay even?
I'm talking about new jobs creation keeping up with population growth and with the young people graduating from high schools and universities each year. I've seen the figure as low as 150,000 a month and as high as 250,000.

10. Well...
...if you count from January 2001 through April 2006, they have to create 9,600,000. There were 7,000,000 created. Also don't believe the smoke and mirrors about the "low unemployment" numbers. The books are cooked, in that there are discouraged workers that have dropped out of the work force, and used up all of their unemployment benefits, and are not counted as official unemployed numbers.
