Fineman helps to layout Rove's strategy for the GOP in 2006

Did I miss the part mentioning that Rove is under investigation and will possibly be indicted?

Rove revamps the Republican strategy

With ratings down and an election coming up, the GOP take a new tack

By Howard Fineman
MSNBC contributor
Updated: 11:28 a.m. ET May 10, 2006

WASHINGTON – This fall’s election season is going to make the past three look like episodes of “Barney.”

The conventional notion here is that Democrats want to “nationalize” the 2006 elections — dwelling on broad themes (that is, the failures of the Bush Administration) — while the Republicans will try to “localize” them as individual contests that have nothing to do with, ahem, the goings on in the capital.

That was before the GOP situation got so desperate. The way I read the recent moves of Karl Rove & Co., they are preparing to wage war the only way open to them: not by touting George Bush, Lord knows, but by waging a national campaign to paint a nightmarish picture of what a Democratic Congress would look like, and to portray that possibility, in turn, as prelude to the even more nightmarish scenario: the return of a Democrat (Hillary) to the White House.

Rather than defend Bush, Rove will seek to rally the Republicans’ conservative grassroots by painting Democrats as the party of tax increases, gay marriage, secularism and military weakness. That’s where the national message money is going to be spent.

1. Bring it on Rove. (If you're not under indictment.)
I want to fight it out over the Bush Admins incredible incompetence over Katrina and it's aftermath. I want to have a fight over Iraq and the fact that this war is screwed up and un-winnable. I want to have a fight over an Admin that can't account for how much money it spent and where it's shipping weapons and so forth. (Taxes? Okay, what happened to the money we sent to Iraq? How many Medicare prescriptions could we have paid for with the missing billions?)

Please let them bring this one on. This is the no-hold-barred fight we need to be having.

11. We have ammunition to fight with
Gay = Hokkergate (Not so damn moral now are we.)
Terror = Sell the ports to the highest bidders and safety be damned.
Taxes = sell off Social Security to the highest bidders as well.

We have counter arguments. We just have to press them.

2. Hence their big investment in having Hillary as the '08 nominee.
At all costs, they need someone they can fully demonize, and scare the bejeebers out of their base to get them to turn out at the polls.

16. Precisely! And this is THE reason why I will never vote for Clinton.
When the M$M starts projecting Clinton as a noteworthy opponent, in the likes of Tweety, Wolf, Imus, Scarface and Pig Boy Russert, you know that they want her to run, because they know that she will lose. And, IMHO, she will lose.

Rovie Boy will still be out of jail through the 2006 election cycle & looking forward to a pre-emptive pardon just after the Puggies win the general election.

4. We need to start defining ourselves or Rove will do it for us in jail
or not. I think he has used up his bag of dirty tricks though, but he could pull out an old one on us. We have got to be careful not to play into their hands, and that includes less emphasis on getting Bush (temporarily-I do think we do need to address the circumstances that lead up to this war and get to the truth, we owe that to the American public, but the effort will go nowhere if we lose the elections)and more on our visions, goals and plans to protect this country from terrorism.

5. Dems need to boil issues down to simple terms and analogies.
Gay marriage amendment? All you have to say is that there has only been one Constitutional amendment that has taken rights away from Americans...the 18th, which prohibited alcohol.

Secularism? Religion and government must stay separate so that one doesn't corrupt the other. The founders of this country believed that. Jesus believed it, too.

Tax increases? Talk about the Republican spending spree deficits. Ordinary Americans couldn't get a credit card, max it out, then pass the debt to their grandchildren. They'd have to pay that debt back. The same principle applies to government.

Military weakness? What "weakens" the military more than being stretched thin, fighting unnecessary wars? What "weakens" morale more than National Guardsmen being taken from their home states in order to serve two or three protracted tours of duty? What "weakens" our army more than starting and refereeing a civil war in another country?

Not reporting, but speculating. He didn't interview anyone or get a press release. Whether he's right or not, he's playing GOP strategist.

13. And WE need to prepare.
Thank you Howard Fineman!

I heard another theory that we all have to watch for. A Katrina type "do-over."

The R's are hoping for a mini-catastrophe in which they can capture (on film) a caped Bush flying over said disaster while plucking floating babies from raw sewage. Of course that's an analogy, ;) but mark my word, they intend to politicize every rain fall, and beat the "we've done what needs to be done to fix the problems" mantra.

12. "tax increases, gay marriage, secularism and military weakness."
How bout the "tax your kids theocrats with an ineffective, paranoid, deadly military bravado?" I'd say military weakness is the fact that Osama Bin Laden remains at large after we've placed a huge financial burden on the backs of our children?

14. Nothing NEW here! This is precisely how Rove helped B* in the
Texas Gubernatorial election (Richards is a Lesbian you know, among other dirty tactic...that is, lies), and with the help of SCOTUS in 2000 and Diebold, E.S. &S and Sequoia in 2004, helped B* 'win.'

"Rove will seek to rally the Republicans’ conservative grassroots by painting Democrats (aka "dirty Liberals") as the party of tax increases, gay marriage, secularism and military weakness."

Rove has been doing this for DECADES! NOTHING NEW.

19. GOP STRATEGY:
1. purge voter lists in high dem counties.

2. purge voters with ethnic sounding names.

3. employ caging techniques to keep the "undesirable" vote down.

4. lose new voter registrations from certain zip codes.

5. send less machines/voter in high dem areas, and make sure those machines are the most likely to breakdown.

6. place poorly trained poll workers in the high dem precincts.

and in Ohio, the pukes threw in one more:

Pass a voter id law (HB 3) to not only disenfranchise many low income, elderly and college students, but will also cause bottlenecks and long lines.
