to stake out courthouse Friday... No sign of status...

Networks plan stakeout of Fitzgerald court Friday; No formal sign of indictment

RAW STORY
Published: Thursday May 11, 2006

Reporters at the major cable television networks plan to be on the ground Friday outside a federal district court where the jury considering the fate of President Bush's senior adviser Karl Rove.

No formal indication has been given of Rove's status, though lawyers close to the case have said his fate is likely to be determined soon. Special Counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald, who is investigating the outing of CIA officer Valerie Plame, is scheduled to meet with the grand jury in the case Friday.

The major networks plan to have reporters live on the ground, a senior reporter said.

Two White House reporters covering the case said they had not heard anything about new Rove developments, though they confirmed that the grand jury is scheduled to meet.

7. Prior notice
I don't mean to be a wet blanket on this, but didn't the NY Times report recently that Fitz's office would give advance notice to the media so that they could be ready for a press conference on the day of the indictment (assuming there is one). If Fitz was going to indict tomorrow, it seems like something would have already leaked about a notice like this going out to the various members of the media today.

also I wouldn't believe the NYT - after all they carried the water for the WH on WMD reporting and Wiretaps

15. when Libby indicted, Fitz announced Press Conference that morning
Fitz office announced on the morning of Oct 28th that there would be a press conference @ 2pm that afternoon.

I would expect a similar thing.

29. Thanks for the correction
I didn't realize he announced it that morning. For some reason I thought he had given more notice and that was circulating around in the press in the day or two leading up to the indictment. I guess we've waited so long for a Rove indictment that I don't want to get my hopes up too high!

18. Considering they are already camping out, then how much advance
notice would he have to give? Of course, if he did a notice today, think of all the coverage the stations would provide speculating through tomorrow afternoon.

33. how is kavanaugh different from anyone else chimpy might nominate
I think Kavanaugh is unqualified and would like to (but don't expect to) see his nomination derailed. But I don't get this idea that we should be particularly concerned about him because of Rove. First of all, would anyone else chimpy might appoint to the court at this point in time be any less likely to side with Rove? WHy? And given that there are 10 judges on the DC Circuit (not counting senior status judges) and most of them were appointed by repubs, why does anyone think that Kavanaugh would necessarily be on the panel to hear an appeal of a Rove conviction (which assumes that Rove is indicted, tried, and convicted, all of which we can steadfastly hope for but shouldn't assume).

Don't get me wrong, I'm on pins and needles, but I'm hesitant to get my hopes up.

Exams are over for me tomorrow; if it's Fitzmas as well, this could very well be the best day I've had in a long time.

37. Yes. And, on Wed. This is not a "special GJ." It is a standing GJ that ...
Edited on Thu May-11-06 04:53 PM by understandinglife
... meets on Wed. and Fri. for any US prosecutor in that Federal District, not just for Mr. Fitzgerald. I've yet to see any indication that Mr. Fitzgerald is actually scheduled to be before the GJ, only that the GJ is scheduled to meet.

p.s. This is not critical of Raw Story, in any way, as I have much admiration for how many times they've been in front of all the media.

Does anyone know if he's back in D.C. yet? That's what the networks have to look for. What good will the stake out do if Fitz is still in Chicago?

38. I have a funny feeling
things have been escalating so quickly over the past few days
as the republicans appear to be totally coming apart at the seams.
I think something big is coming... and this may be it.
This may be the final straw that brings down this evil empire.
There is just too much corruption.... the weight of wrongdoing
is crushing the republicans. You can see them flailing and gasping.
This may be it. Their end is coming soon.
