27. "We Have Nothing to Fear, But Fear Itself..."
"So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself -- nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance." ...Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Amazing how this Guardian article from 2002 predicted the economic woes we're now facing today. And, they quoted FDR against Bush. :)

7. No fear, just mistrust
and not just of the GOP and shrub. Politics and politicians are beginning to make me sick.

I would like our Representatives and Senators to look out for US, you know, WE THE PEOPLE, not the corporations, the lobbyists, and other money folks, we the citizens and taxpayers that elect them and pay them and naively expect them to do the right thing more often than not.

10. The bear is coming. Who'll run the slowest?
Edited on Fri Dec-30-05 04:24 PM by TahitiNut
The fear is the further disintegration of our society - and it's a well-grounded fear. We're so divided and fragmented that we're habituated into thinking that a neighbor's problems are our opportunity to profit. I have very little doubt that my hide will be hung out to dry alone. This is based on my personal experience of a lifetime. When I returned from Viet Nam, nobody met me at the airport and there were no banners saying "Welcome Home!" Ever. When I lost a job because I blew the whistle on stock fraud, I got a small 'settlement' but no justice. When I lost another job because I blew the whistle on false financial reporting in a federal budget process, I got nothing (crooked judge made a summary judgment plainly against the letter of the law and procedure) and even co-workers, fearing for their jobs, kept their mouths shut. I have never seen anyone "rally around the flag of right vs. wrong." What I've seen is "I'm glad that's not me."

We are not really a community. We haven't taken to the streets with pitchforks and torches. We didn't call a General Strike on December 12, 2000 - or since then as atrocity has been piled on top of atrocity. Poland was a more closely knit society with "Solidarity" than the US can expect to be. That is why we're going to see things get a LOT worse before they get better. We create our own reality and get the government we deserve.

We've learned that when the bear come, it's not about being the fastest runner. It's about NOT being the slowest runner. The slower runners have learned how to trip others and bash kneecaps.

12. It's not the government I fear...it's the mob currently in charge...
And this is where the distinction should be made clear. Freepers fear the government, and see it as intrusive and oppressive. Non-Freepers see government as "the people," and see it as a catalyst for solving societal problems and advancing change.

The problem lies when everyone views the government as "the enemy." Fear, mistrust, and suspicion do not make for a strong, solid society. The government is not the enemy to fear: it's the thugs and cutthroats who use it as a means to their own selfish ends.

16. They have the guns and jail cells.
Hell yeah, I'm affraid of them. Since the first day of the war on drugs, I have been terrified.

So I stop doing drugs, and what do you know: now you don't even need to be into drugs to be on their list. Great!

However, the bottom line it, Dems and Repubs have a common interest in this. And the reality is that we actually need not fear them.

So I can modify my fear with that thought.

For the most part, I haven't been able to keep my mouth shut. I'm not going to pretend though that I am not afraid.

I've actually seen one thing that I will never talk about out of fear.

I've saw another thing right in my neighborhood in the freaky scary weeks right after 911 that when I told people about it they laughed and just said you're paranoid.

A woman with an insider view told me something about a law enforcement event just prior to 911 that scared the shit out of me and I won't discuss. Hopefully, it was just a rumor or just a coincidence but everyone who heard it suspected bad faith and prior knowledge.

I believe that shortly after I contacted Sen. Wellstone's office by phone and requested he put his position on the upcoming proposed war with Iraq in writing, because his position was being misrepresented by someone here on DU, my office/ especially the computer was the victim of a sneak and peak by pros just after he sent me an email outlining his policy position.

In November 2004 election day, when I saw F16 fighter jets flathatting an election polling place with overly long lines in a highly democratic area with simultaneous bomb scares in the affected public buildings, I knew it was staged interference with the electoral process.

Funny, but I'm not. I think it's because I know that this side is the right side. Not that I want to be taken away if it does come to things like that, but I am not afraid because my conscience is clear.

25. Afraid?
No.
I am mad, angry, frustrated, sad, and just shocked, that all this crap is happening to our country.

Everyday I wonder, how long can this go on.
Is this the day when *bush and his cronies will finally have to take responsibility, and are held accountable for their lies.
Is this the day when these bullies can no longer bully us.

I want my country back.
I want my freedom back.
I want honest elections.
I want checks and balances in this country.
And, I want the people that I elect, to fight for me.

If anyone has an investigative journalist bug -- fucking go with it! All newbies invited here as well!

Let's all eliminate any possible wiggle room for our fear mongering leaders.
