...All gone to look for America
’let us be lovers we’ll marry our fortunes together’
’I’ve got some real estate here in my bag’
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and mrs. wagner pies
And we walked off to look for america
’kathy,’ I said as we boarded a greyhound in pittsburgh
’michigan seems like a dream to me now’
It took me four days to hitchhike from saginaw
I’ve gone to look for america

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said ’be careful his bowtie is really a camera’

’toss me a cigarette, I think there’s one in my raincoat’
’we smoked the last one an hour ago’
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

’kathy, I’m lost,’ I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I’m empty and aching and I don’t know why
Counting the cars on the new jersey turnpike
They’ve all gone to look for america
All gone to look for america
All gone to look for america

1. Ahh god
that makes me cry. Always loved that song. I have a feeling it is going to be a long search but we just might be able to find and revive her.

3. I absolutely adore the cover version that Yes did.
Never heard the original though. Does it sound similar or is it more folksy?

4. Josh Groban does a really nice version of that one
It's a lovely song and it's the namesake for my innocuous little blog.

7. 'American Tune' has always tugged at my heart
Edited on Thu May-11-06 10:51 PM by xxqqqzme
Many's the time I've been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
But I'm all right, I'm all right
I'm just weary to my bones
Still, you don't expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far away from home, so far away from home

And I don't know a soul who's not been battered
I don't have a friend who feels at ease
I don't know a dream that's not been shattered
or driven to its knees
But it's all right, it's all right
We've lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the road
we're traveling on
I wonder what went wrong
I can't help it, I wonder what went wrong

And I dreamed I was dying
And I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying

We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age's most uncertain hour
and sing an American tune
But it's all right, it's all right
You can't be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day
And I'm trying to get some rest
That's all I'm trying to get some rest

Paul Simon
