63% say that the NSA Spying is "warranted"?
Edited on Fri May-12-06 07:00 AM by Hope2006
Just now saw on GMA that an ABC poll crunched overnight have 63% saying the NSA is justified.

I do not believe this. Who were they polling?

Edited for spelling.

Added: Rodeodance subsequently posted information about this poll in another thread:

15. Charlie Gibson said that they were numbers they crunched
overnight. So, I suspect they polled some people on the street (they had a segment where they showed people being asked their opinion), and these people probably didn't realize the full story yet.

At least, I sure hope this, or something like this, happened.

This isn't that hard to figure out. Here at DU, we constantly
have demonstrations of *DOZENS* of people at a time who are
willing to give away the free-speech rights of *OTHERS*.

Why does it come as a surprise to anyone that folks are willing
to give away the privacy rights of "others"?

PARTY/IDEOLOGY — There are partisan differences in views on the program: Eighty-five percent of Republicans call it acceptable, compared with 45 percent of Democrats. Crucially for the administration, six in 10 independents say the program passes muster.

Similarly, eight in 10 conservatives call the NSA program acceptable. Six in 10 moderates agree, as do more than four in 10 liberals.

34. The hell is wrong with these people?!?
I just don't get it. Do these people need a history lesson?

I really don't get this "if you're not doing anything wrong, you should be concerned" bullshit. I wonder what these people would think if when they were out one day, the police came into their house, went through all of their drawers, read their email, read their mail, listened to their answering machine messages, and made notes and recordings and took pictures of all of their findings, and then left before they came home. I mean, if they're not doing anything wrong, they shouldn't be worried, right?

My god, do these people have any fucking understanding of what freedom and America is SUPPOSED to be?

43. My email to ABC
"GMA reported today that a poll conducted by TNS revealed that 63% think that NSA wiretapping is "warranted".

What was ABC thinking to initiate a poll so soon after the USA Today article? How logical is it that the respondents to this poll even knew of the new information, or, if they did, that they had time to think about the implications?

Is ABC so eager to support the erosion of our 4th Amendment rights that they willing to sponsor an irresponsible poll?

Shame on you, ABC."

44. The word "warrentless" is usually left out, therefore people are not
really aware that they giving answers for the wrong question.

Example: Do you believe wiretapping is ok to help fight terrorism? They answer Yes

Do you believe warrentless wiretapping is ok? They answer No.

It is all in the wording which is usually inaccurate.

46. Yes, it's impossible to frame the question right.
That's why people blow up when they find the gov has been trolling in EVERYBODY'S phone calls and keeping the info forever. That's a situation that has none of the positive assumptions that may lurk in the question (going after only the guilty, or terrorists, and not merely mining, or doing something that works) and all of the negatives (builing huge database involving all americans secretly just because they can). Works better than any poll question because the issue is all in the details, not the platitudes.

49. Here is why people think NSA spying is warranted
Propaganda, pure and simple. Every since you were a child figures of authority have been telling you, America is great America is great. And that the President (and to a lesser extent COngress) IS America.

Every instance of resistance to the all powerful state is recast by authority as "Rebellion" or "Riots", The Haymarket Square Riot, the Whiskey Rebellion, Dorr's Rebellion, the anarchists or socialists or communists or peaceniks or atheists or terrorists or liberals are all trying to subvert and destroy the President (or America).

For the good of the nation I, President Adams, Lincoln, McKinley, Wilson, Johnson, Nixon, Clinton, Bush must crush these dissidents who threaten our way of life. I must enact the Alien & Sedition Laws, I must suspend Habeas Corpus, I must stop dissent against the War Effort, I must jail antiwar protesters, I must keep dossiers on enemies, I must listen to phone calls...

What I don't understand is how shocked (Absolutely shocked I tells ya) some of the DUers are on this subject.

Spying on Americans and culling dissent are a time honored tradition. Of course I'm too late into this discussion for anyone to read my post, but oh well, at least it's out there...

it isn't to soothe us, IMHO, it is to show us how dumb we are because the "majority" think it is ok. I think tje poll is also propaganda for those who do not as yet know what to thik.
