When Ted Hayes announced his intention to join with the white supremacist Minutemen organization, he became the latest in a long line of opportunists, fortune seekers and ordinary Uncle Toms, who are willing to do the bidding of black America’s enemies. The quickest way for black people to find fame, fortune and good press is to publicly denounce what is in the best interest of their own people.

Hayes’ moniker is “homeless activist.” He began cashing in on his local renown in Los Angeles when he campaigned for President Bush in 2004. As a reward he became the subject of fawning coverage in the Wall Street Journal . The Journal was pleased not only to find a black Republican to promote, but one with locked hair whom they dubbed the “Rasta Republican.” Now Hayes is the toast of Fox news, having formed the Crispus Attucks Brigade and declaring his intention to join the Minutemen along the border of the U.S. and Mexico.

The Minutemen claim to be upset only about the illegal nature of immigration. It is an inconvenient fact that self-described white supremacists have promoted the Minutemen and their effort to patrol the border. Confederate and Nazi flags have been proudly unfurled at Minutemen events.

Black people marching arm in arm with white supremacists is the ultimate insult, a sign that black leadership has utterly failed to create an agenda that is of any use. Nature abhors a vacuum, and Ted Hayes and company are happy to fill it.

Just because the white supremacists happen to agree with the Minutemen, that doesn't make the Minutemen a white supremacist organization by any means. And no, I don't support the Minutemen at all, but I hate it when the right purposefully mislabels organizations on the left, and so I'm not going to support the reverse.

the circumstances aren't exactly in favor of keeping out unwelcomed guests. I mean, it all happens in the vast nothingness of the desert, unless you've seen something I haven't (which is entirely possible). How exactly do you stop someone from coming out into the desert with you?

I'd rather associate with most "illegal aliens" than with ANY Nazi skinheads. Or neo-Confederates flying the battle flag.

I don't think the organization was founded as a white supremacist one. I think the assholes latched onto the idea and tainted the otherwise not so horrible group.

But it has become one....

with organizations whose primary purpose is aimed at actions against an ethnic or racial minority. Even if technically the Minutemen are not "anti-Mexican", in effect they are "anti-Mexican". This promotes the gravitation to the group of neo-Nazis and skinheads and other unsavory groups and individuals. Any group who targets a specific ethnic or racial group has to be aware of this probable outcome. The idea of protecting the nation's borders is not a racist idea, but it can mutate into one in a hurry.

the eternal question, why would a member of any minorit - Black, Hispanic, Gay - ever be a Repuke/wingnut? Way to the extreme of the question.

Throughout history there have ALWAYS been the sell outs. I am of Irish ancestry and the roll call of Irish traitors who have sold out their people for individual gain is innumerable.

Some folks are simply out for themselves, plain and simple. It is hard for us to digest because we tend to have other people's interests co-mingled with out own, but there are plenty of self absorbed individuals who think nothing of their disenfranchised group that they belong to. Sad but not surprising.
