Paulette Baines, 45, was convicted Wednesday of felony assault on a public servant. She also was fined $800 and ordered to pay $14,000 restitution to Mary Oliver.

Baines, a high school teacher, walked into Oliver’s science classroom, grabbed Oliver’s hair and dragged her across the room while punching her in the face and kicking her, Oliver testified.

The April 2005 attack occurred because Baines was angry about Oliver confronting her daughter for being in the hallway without permission, Oliver testified. Baines was fired after the incident.

Prosecutors pressed for a more serious conviction of aggravated assault on a public servant, citing Oliver’s two broken ribs, concussion, bruises and damaged disks in her neck. The defense argued that Oliver’s injuries were not that serious and that she did not qualify as a public servant.

Not a public servent, huh? If that mother has time to interupt her daughter's classroom, SHOW CHILDREN THAT VIOLENCE IS O.K. by beating the crap out of the teacher, then she has time to home school her daughter herself!! THEN, she can honestly say that this teacher is not providing a public service to her or her daughter.

Such an assault upon a "private citizen" would have resulted in much more serious charges and JAIL TIME. At the very least, they should have given the culprit some community service work of her own!!!

For what, putting her face in the way of that's woman's swinging fist? That's just insane, and frankly I hope the teacher sues then school district for a lot of money. Who's the victime here? Who started this confrontation? Who was just doing their job? This makes absolutely no sense.

They're both teachers. The one who attacked the other was fired.

isn't anywhere NEAR what this person will need to get her body back, if she ever does.. a single broken rib can take a year to heal and hurts like hell (I know, I broke a rib while bathing my son a few months ago - can't believe I spend two summers flying in choppers all over the state of Alaska, even crashing in ANWR, lost for days, and then broke a rib on a bathtub..)..

I've had arthritis of the spine for over ten years now and it's constant unabaiting PAIN, this Felon should be paying for ALL medical care for her prey for the rest of her life.

That may end up costing this violent nut a LOT more than 14k.

Note two damaged disks IN HER NECK. What problems could result from that in the coming years?
