Reading, Writing and Race - Comments from a Racist HS teacher:
Reading, Writing and Race

(Cayce) - Inside the walls of Brookland-Cayce High School, you expect students to be treated equally. But a viewer tip led News19 online where a teacher's comments left us asking questions.

"These sorts of things are going to upset people, but the truth can be very upsetting," said Brookland-Cayce High School teacher Winston McCuen.

That truth, at least according to McCuen, is that black people are inferior to whites.

"Intellectually, yes they are," said McCuen. "This has been confirmed over and over, and this is a generalization. Again, there are some blacks who are more intelligent than individual whites. But as a rule, that is true. I-Q tests prove it over, and over and over."

News19's J.R. Berry asked McCuen, "Do you think slavery in America was a good thing? "Yes," said McCuen. "In America there was a rational assessment saying listen, if we give these people freedom right as they are and you have to go back to see how they were, you can't assume they were like us.

3. Pass the popcorn - and should his beliefs dictate whether he should be a
teacher?

It's a slippery slide of course. But I think in his case he should just keep his mouth shut or be prepared for the backlash his ignorance will cause.

11. Where did this guy get his degree?
And what subject does he teach? I hope it's not math since his knowledge of statistics is abysmal. I hope it is not critical writing, since his response to the slavery question is so illogical - he doesn't even answer the question but instead sets up a straw man. I hope it is not history.

12. Unfortunately, he's reflecting the views of many whites.
Probably the majority. One doesn't have to look far to see the pervasiveness of racism that still exists in this country. From "unqualified blacks getting jobs", to "illegal aliens stealing jobs", to "welfare queens", to "ragheads", to "Asians taking over the universities", etc, etc, ad nauseum.

This idiot obviously doesn't teach history, biology, or geography. If he does he is obviously unqualified to do so.

13. These racists are so damned stupid...
I.Q. sampling is the same across the board, race has nothing to do with it. Take any random 13% of the population and the I.Q. sampling would be the same as that of any other 13% of the pop. There are black people who have I.Q.s all over the spectrum, the same as there are whites, Hispanics, Native Americans, whatever. This is just a stupid, ludicrous idea that has gone on too damn long....

20. that and the very idea of an IQ test measuring some mythical, most
important "intelligence" is absurd. IQ tests are far from worthless, but they don't prove that someone with a 110 IQ is smarter than someone with a 100 IQ, accept in the case of a specific and narrow context, in which "smarter than" simply means "scored higher on an IQ test than."

15. The article made me angry...
...but it was the responses by many of the readers that infuriated me! It's obvious some of those ignoramuses down there have a very skewed knowledge of slavery and American history. I try hard not to disparage the south, especially here where there are many wonderful enlightened southerners, but those comments really makes a lot of South Carolina whites look ignorant. I'm getting drunk tonight. This was depressing!

18. What an interesting situation
I don't think I'd wish for my children to have an overtly racist teacher, but on the flip side, having such information tossed right in your face is far better than hearing it whispered in small groups.

I don't believe any teacher should come into a classroom with the intent of swaying children to one belief or another. I do, however, applaud all teachers who come into the classroom for the purpose of forcing a child's self-introspection. It is good for all of us to take a few moments to examine our beliefs, why we hold them and what the opposite opinions are.

19. I'm shocked!
What? A racist teacher? In America? I'm dumbfounded! Okay, not really since I had my share of racist teachers growing up teaching me why I would have a harder time succeeding compared to the white students. It's no wonder my grades from them were usually lower than from my other teachers.

He should go get a job at Bob Jones University. In fact, there are a number of private schools and universities that would be happy to have him there. But as long as a teacher has pre-conceived views of his students, regardless of whether it is on race, gender, orientation, or whatever, those views can't help but be filtered down to their student's performance.

21. *sigh*
Just as I told someone who is a ditto-head through and through, if you gave me a black child from birth and I raised him/her as I did my own, chances are they would turn out a lot like my own since we are products of our environments. She disagreed. Aslo I told her if you could see people minus skin you couldn't tell who was what race. She had to kinda sorta agree with that.

Some people just don't get it.

22. What an amazingly bigoted
fool. I feel sorry for any child subjected to his views on race, and slavery. Does he really think that the inhuman, brutal, and vile practice of slavery was good? When I hear about people like him still spouting such nonsense, it explains to me how somebody as incompetent and arrogant as Bush could be selected. The article doesn't give his party affiliation, but I somehow can't see him as a Democrat.

This kind of attitude would be hard enough to encounter in the work place, but for someone like McCuen to be allowed to exercise his freedom of speech to a captive audience of children is intolerable. Yes, he is entitled to his own opinions, but not in every circumstance. I can't pay for a ticket to the movies, then get up and spout off while the audience is trying to watch the movie.

29. I have heard some bizzare things before, like this:
Some group I saw on tv was at a new age booth and their belief was that the jews who died in the holocaust wanted to die - they were re-incarnated jews who had done bad things and wanted to come back and pay for their sins.

Where do these people come from??

31. would McCuen advocate Asians and Jews enslaving whites?
After all, when it comes to IQ testing (leaving aside for the moment the various flaws of these alleged measures of the human mind), Asians and Jews have outscored whites on average.

If this McCuen clown wouldn't accept a lowly place of subjection and bondage at the feet of a "superior" population with higher IQ scores, then why does he imagine that anyone else would or should accept that? Why the double standard?

This whole "bbbut they have lower IQ test scores!" argument is just an ad hoc rationalization. This line of reasoning is pressed into service when it's useful, and then quickly dropped the minute it threatens to bite white supremacism in the ass.

It's kind of like those tendentious little inquests into "race and crime" that white supremacists like to hold. Funny how the supposed 'spirit of free inquiry' always seems to run out just before anyone has a chance to point out any inconvenient facts, such as the disproportionate whiteness of pedophiles as a group. Has that Steve Sailer person ever used crime statistics to justify speculating on the existence of a White Pedophile Gene, or anything like that? Not to my knowledge. Why the double standard?

Clearly, these double standards exist because the point of the racists' arguments is not to shed any light on issues of race, or intelligence, or crime, but rather to defend and promote white supremacy. Any 'evidence' that tends to cast doubt on the white supremacists' foregone conclusions of their own racial superiority (such as the finding that over 90% of kiddie porn arrestees are white*) are carefully suppressed in the "racialist" discourse.

32. Total Nutbag
"This isn't the first time Winston McCuen has been in the news. In 1999, he was a history teacher at St. Joseph's, a private high school in Greenville. McCuen hung a Confederate flag in his classroom. When parents complained, he was told by school officials to take it down. He didn't, and he was fired.

"Our board of trustees ran screaming into the night saying 'take it down, take it down,' and I refused to because you need to present different views in the classroom," said McCuen."

What the fuck is a Confederate flag doing in a Latin classroom? And what dissident views on Latin grammar and syntax are there, anyway? Mary Mother of Christ!

Go to Google and enter ... "Winston McCuen" Greenville ... and read the results.

What does surprise me is that he was hired by another school in the state, and a public high school at that.
